10X Steam Lab

I used the resources at the 10X STEAM lab for a workshop for teachers on Active Learning recently, which were extremely simplistic yet cognitively challenging across disciplines. It truly brought out the interdisciplinary nature of the the IB curriculum. It brought teachers across disciplines to collaborate, question, use their bi-literate brain to research and make things technically work!! Some of the activities like creating an aesthetic certificate using a circuit for themselves or creating a potato battery to make an LED glow involved a lot of prior knowledge, collab, use of phones & laptop, chatter and excitement ... There were no barriers between disciplinary teachers anymore ... PE, Physics, chemistry and Bio teachers...some of them even skipped tea to ensure the bulb was glowing in the desired time!! It was a fab experience for me to see that happen as a facilitator!!

As an educator at 10X International School, the 10X STEAM lab has enabled me to learn a variety of new skills and experiment with different equipment and technologies. The learning process emphasizes hands-on training, tailored to the pace of each individual, whether a student or faculty member. The lab fosters a space for co-learning among students and faculty, creating a vibrant atmosphere that stands out from traditional lab setups, where users typically follow a fixed manual. The STEAM lab facilitates learning of the latest technologies and provides support for hands-on experiments under the guidance of the lab facilitator, Mr. Richard. Some activities include working with circuits using Arduino and its programming, assembling and programming robotic kits, and 3D printing.

I’m amazed by the STEAM lab and the incredible instructor who brings it to life. His guidance and dedication create an environment where innovation thrives. With their support, every tool and resource in the lab becomes a gateway to creativity and hands-on learning.

The STEAM lab is an outstanding space, but what truly sets it apart is the incredible instructor leading the way. His passion, expertise, and unwavering support make every opportunity in the lab feel accessible and exciting.

Competent and supportive faculty, however facilities and resources are limited with regards to size of the School.
