All India Radio (AIR) Thiruvananthapuram, also known as Akashvani Thiruvananthapuram, is one of the prominent regional stations under the All India Radio network. AIR 1161MW and Ananthapuri FM101.9 Vividh Bharati have been rendering excellent service. The 1161MW transmitter has to be replaced with an FM transmitter for better performance and wider reach. Very happy to see that Ananthapuri 101.9 has come back with full performance and fixed hours of Vividh Bharati relay.

An old government office which is maintained very well. Amidst of the city rush, one can experience the lush green nature vibe within the campus. Though still structured in old fashioned way, shows are well coordinated and executed.

Good ambience and eco - friendly campus

Popularly known as the AIR is a central government institution. A place where Indian art forms are nurtured. Very peaceful ambiance. Office work and cultural events takes place simultaneously. Staff artists and other invited artists come and perform here in the studio which is then broadcasted via AIR. Opens for public only for certain events hosted by the institution. Parking space and a canteen available. Public is usually not allowed in the institution unless they enter the details in a register maintained by the security guards.

Broad-minded broadcasters.Very cooperative and friendly.Decent dealings.Helpful and serving staff who preserve the nobility of the ancient capital of Travancore. Being there is a wonderful experience.

Still maintaining it's old glory. Was a very sought after place a couple of decades ago when AIR was the only option available for a common man's daily entertainment as well as uodation on current affairs.

Located at Vazhuthakaud with program production facility. It is the feeding station for local transmitters and HPT at Alappuzha. Programs are very good, AIR is the only radio channel for information, entertainment, news, current affairs, cultural etc.

A run down, unkempt place that had seen its days of glory long years ago. Another example of why govt should exit these businesses, lock, stock and barrel.

The oldest and the Best Radio station in Kerala. More than 65 years of glorious service. Hats off to 'prabhata bheri'. Special mention to its programme on Agriculture Legal Medical Educational guidance. Big salute to its dedicated artists. But its old and worn out MW 1161kHz has to be replaced by a 10kW FM transmitter to win back the falling audience. Vividh Bharati now re christened as Ananthapuri FM is simply superb. Programmes like 'nishasurabhi' 'kudumbakom' are worth mentioning. Hindi adoptions like 'man chahe geet' 'chhaya geet' are excellent pickings.

The efforts for establishing a radio station in the capital of the princely State of Travancore were started as early as 1937. But it became fruitful only on 12th March 1943 by installing a 5 kilowatt medium wave transmission station at Kulathur in Trivandrum. After independence it became part of All India Radio.

During colonial rule, the erstwhile Travancore State set up the first Radio Station. The Princely State of Travancore has granted sanction for the establishment of a Broadcasting Station at Thiruvananthapuram, on 30th September 1937. His Highness the Maharaja Travancore showed great interest in broadcasting and formed a committee of the top officials to evaluate the possibility of installing a Transmitter at the capital Thiruvananthapuram. His Highness Sri Chithira Thirunal Balarama Varma inaugurated the Travancore State Broadcasting Station on 12th March 1943. The 5 KW Medium Wave Transmitter was installed at Kulathur and the Studio was located at old MLA Quarters. At that time two hours broadcasting on Friday evenings were aired by the station. Later it increased to Four day broadcast per week. After Independence when the Princely State of Travancore has joined in Indian Union, the Travancore Broadcasting Station also merged with All India Radio Network from 1st April 1950.
