Visited Ellora Caves and it was truly an unforgettable experience. The ancient rock-cut caves showcase incredible craftsmanship, history, and devotion all in one place. The highlight is the magnificent Kailasa Temple, carved from a single rock – it’s hard to believe such architecture was created centuries ago. The site is well maintained, peaceful, and perfect for history lovers, photographers, and spiritual seekers. A must-visit place in Maharashtra! 🌿✨

Ellora Caves is one of India’s most extraordinary UNESCO World Heritage Sites and a breathtaking example of ancient rock-cut architecture. Carved between the 6th and 10th centuries, the complex beautifully showcases the harmony of three religions—Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism—coexisting through art and devotion. The most stunning highlight is the Kailasa Temple, a massive monolithic structure carved from a single rock. Standing before it feels unreal, as if human hands somehow sculpted an entire mountain into a temple. The detailing on the pillars, walls, and sculptures is incredibly intricate, telling stories from epics and mythology with remarkable precision. Each cave has its own character—Buddhist caves feel calm and meditative, Hindu caves are dynamic and expressive, while Jain caves are delicate and refined. Walking through them feels like traveling through different chapters of history. The site is well maintained, though it involves a fair amount of walking, so comfortable footwear is important. Early morning visits are best to avoid heat and crowds. Overall, Ellora Caves is not just a monument it is a timeless experience of art, faith, and human imagination carved in stone.

A must visit during your lifetime, because there is nothing quite like this anywhere else in the world. These caves not only symbolise harmony of faith, they also reflect human ingenuity and architectural/ engineering brilliance of our ancestors. Built between 6th century AD to the 12th century, there are 34 accessible caves, lined up in the shape of a horse-shoe, comprising of 12 Buddhist caves (Caves 1 to 12), 17 Hindu caves (Caves 13 to 29) and 5 Jain caves (Caves 30 to 34). Kailash temple (cave no. 16), the most prominent of all the caves, is right in front of you, as you enter the caves arena, and it was the first cave we visited. This temple was inspired by the Mount Kailash, and built in the 8th century AD in ancient Dravidian style. Carved from the top of a rock mountain, going downwards to the base, thus building initially the roof, this largest monolithic structure in the world remains an architectural marvel and an engineering wonder. We spent about two hours in the Kailash temple. Thereafter we visited the other most prominent cave - Vishwakarma cave (cave no. 10) built in the 7th century, a magnificent Buddhist Chaitya (Prayer hall) with a statue of sitting Buddha. It was quite fascinating to feel the echo sound within the Prayer hall. So peaceful and serene it was. We also went in and came out of some other caves, each unique in it's own way. We spent about three and a half hours total in the caves.

Ellora Caves is one of the most impressive historical sites in India and a remarkable example of Indian architecture and craftsmanship. It’s hard to imagine that such magnificent structures were created around 1,500 years ago without modern machines or technology. The main highlight is Cave 16, the famous Kailasa Temple, which is truly breathtaking in terms of scale and intricate carvings. The entire complex includes around 34 caves associated with Hinduism, Buddhism, and Jainism, showcasing India’s rich cultural heritage. If you want to explore the site properly, keep at least 5–6 hours in hand. Every cave has something unique to offer, making the visit both educational and memorable.

Ellora Caves is one of those places that genuinely lives up to the hype. The sheer scale, detail, and craftsmanship of the carvings are jaw-dropping. You’re not just looking at caves, you’re looking at centuries of effort carved straight into rock with insane precision. There are 34 caves in total, but if you’re short on time, caves 10, 16, and 20 are the ones you absolutely shouldn’t miss. Cave 16 in particular stands out. It’s on another level. They do have an electric car facility, which sounds convenient, but don’t expect full coverage. It only takes you to the major and easily accessible caves, so if you actually want to explore properly, be ready to walk. One thing people overlook: there’s no official storage inside for bags. Carry light, or you’ll regret it halfway through. There are vendors outside the gate who’ll store your stuff, but that’s not exactly high-security, so don’t be careless. Overall, if you’re into history, architecture, or just want to see something that doesn’t look real, this place delivers. Just plan smart or you’ll miss half of what makes it special.

I recently visited the Ellora Caves and had a wonderful experience. The caves are truly impressive, with amazing architecture and historical significance. It was quite hot during my visit, so I would recommend avoiding peak summer if possible. However, apart from the heat, the overall experience was fantastic and very enjoyable. If you visit during cooler weather, you can explore comfortably and enjoy the beauty of the caves even more. Definitely worth visiting!

Recently, I had the privilege of visiting Ellora Caves for the second time, and I was just as mesmerized as I was on my first visit. Every visit reveals something new. It’s almost impossible to comprehend how these magnificent caves were carved so deeply and intricately into solid rock over a thousand years ago. The craftsmanship is simply extraordinary. From the detailed sculptures to the grand architectural design, every inch reflects the brilliance, patience, and devotion of ancient Indian artisans. The caves beautifully represent the harmony of three faiths—Buddhism, Hinduism, and Jainism—making Ellora not just a monument, but a symbol of India’s rich spiritual and cultural heritage. What amazed me the most is that these caves were hand-carved between the 6th and 10th centuries, without modern tools or machinery. The iconic Kailasa Temple, carved from a single rock during the reign of the Rashtrakuta dynasty, is an engineering and artistic marvel that still leaves visitors speechless. Ellora is not just a place to visit—it is a place to experience, admire, and reflect upon. A true masterpiece of human creativity and devotion. Highly recommended for anyone who appreciates history, architecture, and spirituality. A timeless wonder that continues to inspire awe.

Absolute architectural marvel! A visit to Ellora Caves is a once-in-a-lifetime experience. The scale of the Kailasa Temple (Cave 16) is mind-blowing—it's hard to believe this entire structure was carved from the top down out of a single rock. The site is a beautiful symbol of religious harmony, featuring 34 caves dedicated to Buddhist, Hindu, and Jain faiths sitting side-by-side. Magnificent but be prepared! The caves are stunning, but the experience can be exhausting due to the heat and the amount of walking/climbing involved. Pros: Incredible detail, world-class architecture, and well-maintained grounds. Cons: Can get very crowded on weekends; signage could be better. Advice: Book your tickets online via the ASI website to skip the ticket counter queue. Beware of unauthorized "guides" and monkeys near the caves!. Note: The site is closed on Tuesdays

Ellora Caves is an absolute masterpiece of Indian history and architecture. Visiting this place feels like stepping into a living history book. The carvings are so detailed that it’s hard to believe they were created centuries ago using only simple tools. A special highlight is Cave 16 – the Kailasa Temple, which is also featured on the ₹20 note. Seeing it in real life makes you appreciate why it was chosen — the scale, symmetry, and single-rock excavation are mind-blowing. It’s not just a temple, it’s an engineering wonder. Cave 15 (Dashavatara Cave) is equally impressive, with beautiful carvings depicting Lord Vishnu’s avatars. The artwork and storytelling through stone are truly remarkable. Overall, Ellora Caves is a must-visit destination for history lovers, architecture enthusiasts, and anyone who wants to witness India’s incredible heritage. Photos don’t do justice — you have to see it yourself.

The Elora Caves are in 3 parts. Jainism, Buddhism and Hindusam. I saw a huge Shiv ling in cave no. 16. It felt so nice and positive. Elora cave is a huge area. People who don't like to walk for long distance, they can take car for 40₹ pick up and return. One should visit this marvelous place. It is near to 12th Jyotirlinga Girneshwar. Kindly avoid going there in public holidays and weekend to avoid huge crowd. There are not much options for stay. Try to book stay in 2-3 days prior. You might also get clean and high rating hotel stay.
