Upscale and a very renowned restaurant of Kolkata, the road is very narrow so be careful while taking your car there. There is parking provided. The waiters and service people were very polite and attentive, food price is on the higher side but the food quality and quantity is good.

Amber Restaurant has become a beloved culinary destination for locals in Kolkata. Renowned for its delectable North Indian cuisine, it offers an array of mouthwatering dishes that truly embody the essence of comfort food. Signature items like Palak Paneer, Baked Fish, Paneer Butter Masala and Chicken Butter Masala are just the tip of the iceberg; their Prawn Cocktail and Chana Masala also leave diners craving more.

I used to come to Amber as a child with my father 👨‍👦. Back then, it was one of those classy, slightly expensive restaurants 🍽️ reserved for special occasions. I fondly remember those complimentary tiny onions dipped in vinegar 🧅🫙 — a nostalgic taste. This time, I visited with my partner ❤️ and tried the Chicken Kebabs 🍗 and Biryani 🍛. The food, service, and ambiance were all really good. Not too crowded these days, but definitely an underrated gem 💎 now.

Nice old restaurant that definitely brings back a lot of nostalgia. However, the food quality doesn't quite match the prices — ₹100 for a naan feels pretty steep for an average restaurant in India. While the place holds its old-world charm, it really needs some upgrades to match today’s standards. Overall, it’s a good experience but could be much better with a few improvements.

The food was genuinely good — well-prepared, flavorful, and served fresh. Compliments to the kitchen for maintaining quality. However, the overall experience was affected by the service. The waiters consistently seemed overly focused on tips while serving, and their repeated emphasis on it made the atmosphere uncomfortable. It felt less like hospitality and more like expectation, which unfortunately took away from the enjoyment of the meal. Good food, but the service experience needs improvement.

Oh.... Amber. Its halcyon days are long gone. Recommendation.... go only for old time's sake. The food was excellent but the portions were small. I had an excellent Chilli Chicken and Prawn Newberg. Both were good. The Chilli Chicken was especially paltry. The Prawn Newberg was excellent and tasty. The service was top class. I give it a rating of 5. The atmosphere was sadly quiet. I was the last guest in my area. Seeing as if I had taken my time to finish my meal it would have kept them waiting (and they were visibly winding down), I got my food packed. Trinca's is very different. Do I recommend it ? As compared to Trinca's, no. For old time's sake, once only.

This place used to be a great restaurant for North Indian food. I remember going to this place for more than 20 years! Though recently the quality of the food has deteriorated to levels below acceptable. Eating food here can make you really sick. The worst part is that nothing tastes fresh here, well there is no taste at all. The service is fine, but there is a sense of greediness of tip that can be seen in every service you get at this restaurant. From the toilet guy, to the server, to the lift person, to the entrance security! like really!? this is so cheap! The prices when compared to serving quantity, the quantity is not enough. Each order of curry is barely good enough for one person. Overall extremely disappointed and my last visit to this restaurant. Hope the owners take these customer reviews seriously or this place is surely going to shut down soon!

Chaliye Shuru Karte hai😬 - Huge sitting area, fully airconditioned - lot of staff clean washrooms - Let go to main point -FOOD- Food is like good would not say it was outstanding. Have tried mutton korma but its preperation was totally different it was not like that traditional one. Chicken tangri kababs was also good but not the best. Palak Paneer/ Chicken Reshmi butter masala was outstanding. Fish tikka was good. Butter naan was too fluffy with butter bath. Dekhke lena apna apna🤮 Mutton Biryani was horrible with higher price, about quantity - for one person only. Tutti fruti was good but faluda ice cream was too sweet🫨. See some pictures…

Biriyani was half cooked with mutton very hard and very less quantity. And the mutton piece was very small . I don't recommend. Earlier it was good.

Their clientele are old folks working around who just get dragged to this place out of years of habit. Sadly, the place has taken the very essence of the old charm restaurant business for granted. The taste is decently preserved. However, the presentation and service has turned disappointingly lousy. Baked Fish was their signature item. The attached photo shows you how carelessly it is plated and served. The taste was the only saving grace. The bar variety is decent if not magnificent. I'd go back to this place for this item with a bottle of Corona, till they cook it as well. I don't dare look into their menu card for any further.

Amber has been serving delicious North Indian and Continental cuisine for more than sixty years. The seating capacity is nearly 300 spread over a couple of floors. This is one of the favourites for a family lunch or dinner of many food lovers in the city. The ambience is relaxed. They have maintained the exquisite taste and quality of their North Indian dishes for decades. However, the Continental items are not upto the mark nowadays (in my opinion only) apart from Fish Lever Gin which is very good till date. One can select any dish from their vegetarian and non-vegetarian North Indian dishes without any hesitation. Only one aspect of these items is to be considered. Those are quite spicy, which may not go well with people who are used to have light food. But once in a while one can indulge himself or herself with Amber food.

One of Kolkata's most renowned bar-cuisine establishments. The restaurant still has the essence of an old place. One of the best places for a nice family dinner. The ambience is very good and the quality of food is also very well maintained along the years. When you come here, you can eat whatever you want, but you must eat fish Orly. The vegetarian options are delicious as well. They provide quite standard service. You must have vivid memories of the entire evening.

Read till end .Non veg is good but veg is so so .. cheese ball ordered but no cheese inside. If any one dine here then be ready for tips cash .. waiters here are very rude if you don't tip them with more money..i tiped 50/- then I got reply from waiter in hind - aur do nai to ya bhi rakh lo ..how rude ..Amber is famous restaurant cum bar .. management should look in this.as waiter are getting salary or they are on tips only ..god know ..

Returned to visit this restaurant after many years. Sorry to see the state of affairs at this once lovely stalwart of the hey deys. Horrible ambiance, terrible service, and sadly even worse was the quality and taste of the food. The mutton korma was appalling, the keema naan was atrocious, the chicken Tikka masala anything but, and the chicken Jamboorie was undercooked and insipid. Truly an uninspiring meal, and a visit that felt like such a waste.

The best one... They have the premium quality food. great dessert options. Yes but the prices are slight high. The atmosphere is great also.

Vegetarian food was worst order was worth rs 6800 but the quality quantity even the crockery was so worst that it was unimaginable. From starters to rice everything was worst.. it's the only indian restaurant in my knowledge that does not have dal fry and steam rice in the menu. I will never recommend this place to anyone as it was a very special occasion but got spoiled miserably please don't visit amber and do not waste your money.Worst experience

Very good ambience,food quality is also very good. Table service is actually one of the best I have ever seen. Table arrangement almost made me feel like I am in a 5 star hotel. Waiters are very polite,properly dressed. All the staff seems like they know their job well. Washroom was very clean. You can bring your family here, but bear it in mind,hard liquor is served here. They also have a very good collection of hard liquor. They have different cards for food and liquor which is a very good arrangement. Ultimately if you want to have peace of mind from the crowded Street of Dharmatala, u can come here and rest.

Provides Quality, yummy good food, beautiful ambience, one of the oldest restaurant with good service and amazing food. The staffs are well behaved. Family restaurant and bar. I really liked it. U can park vehicle nearby as it is but crowded.

Extremely Disturbing Experience — Serious Food Safety Violation at a “Heritage” Restaurant Amber Restaurant’s reputation as a heritage landmark of Kolkata makes this incident not just disappointing, but deeply alarming. The chicken served to us was cold at the core, clearly indicating that it had been refrigerated and inadequately reheated, rather than freshly cooked. Serving poultry in this condition is not a minor lapse — it is a serious food safety violation. As per basic food hygiene norms and FSSAI guidelines, cooked food must be served hot and at safe temperatures. Cold-inside chicken raises legitimate concerns about bacterial growth and consumer health. This level of negligence is unacceptable anywhere, let alone at a restaurant that charges premium prices and trades heavily on its legacy. Several other dishes were equally poor in quality, stale in taste, and completely unworthy of the amount charged. What was most offensive was the apparent complacency — as if customers are expected to accept inferior, reheated food simply because the restaurant has a famous name. Heritage is not an excuse to lower standards. If anything, it demands greater accountability. This experience reflects a worrying disregard for food safety, quality control, and customer well-being. Unless Amber Restaurant takes immediate corrective action and strictly adheres to FSSAI food safety regulations, diners should exercise extreme caution. Kolkata’s culinary reputation deserves far better than this. Highly dissatisfied. Completely unacceptable. Not recommended. I have attached the bill for authenticity.

Bit costly. 1l kinely mineral water cost 65/- Otherwise staff behavior is very good. Food quality average. One more thing i find ridiculous that they are a non veg restaurant but do not serve Chicken Biriyani! Otherwise peaceful atmosphere, neat n clean.
