Istanbul

Arrasta Bazar is a beautifully curated alternative to the larger markets, offering a much more relaxed and manageable shopping experience than the hectic Grand Bazaar. I loved having the extra time to actually speak with the shop owners, who were incredibly welcoming and generous with their hospitality. It was such a treat to browse their unique finds while enjoying a delicious cup of traditional Turkish tea & coffee

Our group was given free time to wander through the Arasta Bazaar, a charming historic market tucked behind the Blue Mosque. Originally built in the 17th century, the rent from these shops was historically used to fund the upkeep of the mosque itself. Today, it’s a haven for premium teas, intricate Turkish ceramics, luxury goods, and jewelry. I was particularly captivated by the hand-painted tiles; having seen documentaries on their heritage, witnessing the vibrant colors and traditional patterns in person felt like seeing a living masterpiece. 🎨✨

A very nice small bazaar, basiaclly one street with shops on both sides, similar to what you see in the Grand bazaar but open. You can find shops for jewellery, rugs, souvenirs, and of course Turkish sweets. The place is neat and clean and the shops are well kept. The prices are by no means better than in the Grand Bazaar, in fact in some shops, the prices are higher. Worth a visit but don't have high expectations.

I love this bazaar!!! Low key and less busy than the Grand Bazaar! And you can find beautiful things that you won’t see somewhere else in Istanbul! I found a lot of beautiful gifts and souvenirs and even jewelry for myself!

Cute little bazaar which is typically not too crowded. The bazaar has little shops (souvenirs, fake designer bags, spices, Baklava, etc). Worth a visit, although it’s not the cheapest place to buy souvenirs. I however found a very beautiful scarf at one of the scarf shops and it was super reasonably priced.

Çarşı çok güzel. İçerideki Mozaik müzesinin kapalı olması ve tadilat süresinin bilinmemesi kötü. Güzel el işi satan mağazalar var. Hemen at meydanın bitiminde solda sokaktan girerek gidebilirsiniz. Küçük ama gezilmeli.

I would strongly recommend avoiding the bazaars and tourist shopping areas around the Fatih district. Our tour stopped at a carpet shop where we were shown what was presented as a special, high-quality carpet. Later, after our group split up, several people found what appeared to be the exact same carpet being sold elsewhere as a commercially manufactured product. This raised serious concerns about the authenticity of what we were being shown and the sales tactics being used. The spice shops were equally disappointing. One store insisted on taking payment by credit card but would not clearly disclose prices beforehand. After the purchase, they would not provide a receipt. Any business that refuses to clearly state prices and provide documentation for a sale should be treated with caution. Throughout the area, many shops seem focused on extracting as much money as possible from tourists rather than building trust or providing value. Aggressive sales tactics, unclear pricing, and questionable claims about product authenticity were common themes during our visit. If you are visiting Istanbul, I would recommend spending your money elsewhere and doing your research before making any major purchases, especially carpets, spices, or souvenirs. There are many other districts in the city where shopping feels more transparent, relaxed, and fairly priced.

It’s a wonderful bazaar close to the Four Seasons Hotel. All the proprietors seemed professional and helpful. The shops that really stood out for us were the ones selling different levels of IZNIK. As if it would matter to Americans the shop we bought from had pictures of Bill Clinton and Oprah.
