The entry fee is reasonable and valid for the entire day.

Das strahlende Wahrzeichen Bangkoks – Ein absolutes Highlight! Der Wat Arun (Tempel der Morgenröte) ist für mich einer der beeindruckendsten Orte in ganz Thailand. Wer in Bangkok ist, muss diesen Tempel einfach gesehen haben – er ist ein absolutes Highlight der Stadt. Was ihr für euren Besuch wissen müsst: * Eintritt: Der Preis liegt aktuell bei 200 Baht pro Person. * Warten: Stellt euch auf Schlangen am Eingang ein, besonders an den Fotospots auf den Treppen. Es ist ein sehr beliebtes Ziel, aber das Warten lohnt sich definitiv! * Die Details: Wenn man direkt davor steht, sieht man erst, wie filigran die Fassade ist. Sie besteht aus Millionen von bunten Porzellanstücken und Muscheln, die wunderschöne Muster bilden. Ein kleiner geschichtlicher Funke: Der Tempel hat eine ganz besondere Bedeutung: Als das alte Königreich Ayutthaya fiel, erreichte der damalige König Taksin diesen Ort genau bei Sonnenaufgang – daher der Name "Tempel der Morgenröte". Bevor der Smaragd-Buddha in den Großen Palast auf der anderen Flussseite zog, stand er sogar eine Zeit lang hier im Wat Arun! Der zentrale Turm (Prang) ist über 70 Meter hoch und repräsentiert in der buddhistischen Kosmologie den heiligen Berg Meru. Mein Tipp: Die steilen Treppen nach oben zu steigen ist zwar anstrengend, aber der Blick über den Chao Phraya Fluss ist unbezahlbar. Fazit: Ein architektonisches Meisterwerk und ein Muss für jedes Fotoalbum. Nehmt euch die Zeit, die Details aus der Nähe zu betrachten!

One od the many huge and beautiful temples in Bangkok. It’s relatively small compared to other and we finished the tour in about 1,5h. You get small water bottle with each ticket and i think that’s awesome, especially in this Thai heat. In some places it can get crowded. Ticket was 200baht. Directly at the tempe is boat pier so the best way to get by far is the boat. Green, blue flag and hop on boat.

If the heat gets to be too much, head to the other side of the river bank. We found a small spot across the water just as the sun began to set, and the view was magical. It’s the perfect place to snap those "postcard" photos without the midday sun beating down on you. Seeing the temple silhouette against the orange sky was a deeply emotional moment for me—it was one of those times where you just feel lucky to be alive and traveling.

While its name suggests a beautiful sight at sunrise, witnessing the temple during the late afternoon, as the setting sun sets its intricate facade ablaze with a golden glow, is nothing short of magical. The central prang (spire) is an architectural marvel that must be seen to be believed. Getting up close and realizing that the entire structure is covered in millions of painstakingly placed pieces of porcelain and seashells is simply awe-inspiring. The level of detail and craftsmanship is unparalleled. Climbing the steep, narrow steps of the central prang is an adventure in itself, and the reward at the top is a panoramic view of the Chao Phraya River and the Bangkok skyline that is worth every effort. Seeing the Grand Palace and Wat Pho from across the river from this unique vantage point is unforgettable. The surrounding temple grounds are equally serene, with beautiful Buddha images, colorful pavilions, and towering statues of mythical guardians that make you feel transported to another world. While the climb is challenging, it is a quintessential part of the experience. I highly recommend visiting about two hours before sunset to have enough time to explore the grounds and make the climb before catching the incredible light show as the sun goes down. This temple is not just a photo opportunity; it is a living, breathing testament to Thai artistry and devotion. The sense of history and spiritual grandeur is palpable. Wat Arun is more than just a temple; it is an iconic symbol of Thailand and an absolute, non-negotiable must-see for any traveler.

If you visit Bangkok and only see one temple, make it Wat Arun Ratchawararam. For me, this is the most interesting and impressive place in the city. The details on the main prang are incredible! When you get close, you can see the porcelain and tiny decorative pieces that make the whole structure so unique. Climbing the steep steps is a bit intense, but the view from the top overlooking the river is absolutely worth it. There’s something powerful about this place. It feels historic, spiritual, and dramatic at the same time. Bangkok has many beautiful temples, but this one really stands out. I’d come back again without hesitation.

Il tempio é davvero stupendo ma ovviamente pieno di turisti. Purtroppo questo è aggravato dalla presenza di decine e decine di persone che affittano abiti tipici per farsi le foto e ti fanno storie se passi nell’ inquadratura. Il tempio in sé rimane stupendo e sicuramente una delle cose più belle di Bangkok, stupende le ceramiche floreali che ricoprono tutto il tempio e i colori.

It gets very crowded during the daytime, so visiting early morning or in the evening is a much better experience with cooler weather and nicer views. There is a small snack bar and a mini market inside the premises where you can buy drinks and souvenirs. Reaching the temple is easy by ferry. From ICONSIAM, the ferry costs around 40 THB and drops you close to the temple. Overall, a beautiful landmark with great photo spots and convenient access by river.

An important tip: the complex has several other temples besides the main stupas (prangs); it’s worth exploring the entire area. The view is stunning from a distance, especially in the late afternoon. I recommend heading toward the river or even taking the ferry across to Tah Tian Pier (the crossing is very cheap) to watch the sunset. The view of it lit up is simply beautiful. Useful info: the entrance fee is cash only, but there’s an ATM right at the entrance if you need to withdraw money.

We came here by boat from Sathorn Pier, which was very convenient. It is a beautiful temple and a great stop along the river. The entrance fee is 200 baht per person, which includes a small bottle of mineral water, a nice touch in the heat. What surprised us most was the shopping! Even though this is a major tourist destination, the accessories (like keychains) are actually cheaper here than in the city center or the malls. Definitely a good place to buy souvenirs. We also tried the ice cream inside for 89 baht, it was delicious and very refreshing. Highly recommended!
