The Temple of Bacchus is so intact it feels like it’s just waiting for someone to reboot Greek mythology as a Netflix drama. And yes there’s a 1,000 ton stone just lying there like ancient Lebanon’s answer to “can’t be bothered today.” More on that lazy legend in a separate review. Baalbek has lived through Romans Ottomans earthquakes and modern messes and it still stands looking smug and sunlit. It’s grand it’s surreal and it makes you feel like you accidentally walked into a time-travel scene in a Marvel movie. Bring water bring sunscreen and bring your sense of awe. Baalbek isn’t just a site — it’s a flex.
