Bhojan Griha offers a truly authentic Nepali dining experience in a beautifully restored traditional setting. The ambiance is cultural and warm, often enhanced with live traditional music and hospitality that reflects Nepali heritage. The food is well-prepared with a good variety of local dishes, served in a traditional style. Service is attentive and welcoming. Overall, it’s a great place to experience Nepali culture along with a satisfying meal, especially for first-time visitors to Kathmandu.

Old Rana Palace rebuilt into a restaurant. You feel like home unlike other restaurants. The food is tasty, the cultural performance cover Mountain, Hill and Terai culture. Foreigners will love this place as it will give them authentic Nepali experience.

ネパールの伝統的な食卓を再現したレストランとのこと。コース料理を注文。量も味も満足で、日本人の口にも合うと思う。

This place was phenomenal. We had an amazing time dining here. I think you are mostly paying the price for the experience. The food was also amazing. Reading previous reviews, I nearly decided to not go here. The service was really good compared to the other reviews I read. But I think it depends on when you go. Their service seems to revolve around the performance. So, if you get there at 7 PM, you are in it for the whole performance and service would also be good. We didnt have to wait long at all. It was something like performance — food — performance— food. This was one of the best experiences. I removed one star for their cocktail. The bhojan griha special was really bad. I had a hard time drinking that.

The pricing and service at Bhojan Griha don’t match the experience they provide. The thali lacked variety in vegetables, and the service was extremely slow. Definitely not worth the price.

More than just the food itself, what really stood out to me was the overall experience of dining in a traditional Nepali home setting. From the moment you step inside, the atmosphere feels warm and familiar, almost like visiting a relative’s house rather than walking into a commercial restaurant. The seating arrangement, the decor, and even the way the dishes are presented all contribute to that cozy, “un-restauranted” feeling. The food follows the same theme—simple, less spicy, and free from the heavy gimmicks you often see in restaurants trying too hard to impress. It’s the kind of cooking that feels honest. Parking was surprisingly good, which is always a relief when visiting popular places. Beyond the food, they also offer cultural dance performances and live local music, which add a lot to the experience without feeling forced. The service was smooth, and the staff were genuinely humble and welcoming, which made the visit feel even more personal. There are a couple of things that could be improved, though. Clearer signs leading into and out of the dining area would be really helpful—I actually got lost trying to make my way back to the parking space. And I wasn’t a fan of the Bhojan Griha Special cocktail; to me, it tasted more like medicine than a drink, though that could come down to personal preference. On the flip side, I highly recommend trying the local aila. It was excellent and felt much more in tune with the overall vibe of the place.

Notice the candle die out and no food on the table. Ambience is great, but service is too damn slow. They perform song and dance more than they do serve the food. Come here for the whole experience not just the food.

Honestly - a tourist trap but a good one. Priced at usd30 for dinner including a rice wine. Lots of dances from different areas, which is fun, and the diners joined in. Food was fine, not the best, but given the atmosphere, it was worth it.

We visited Bhojan Griha today(saturday) and honestly, it didn’t live up to expectations, especially for the price. it really feels like total ripoff. At Rs. 2,900 per person (we were a group of 5), you expect something exceptional. Unfortunately, the food was very average. If you’re Nepali and familiar with authentic flavors, you can get much better taste and quality at almost any good Thakali restaurant in the valley for one-third of the price. Nothing stood out in terms of flavor, depth, or authenticity. It felt commercial rather than memorable. To be fair, the food arrived quickly but was properly warm and hot likely because we arrived early at 5:00 PM and were the first table. Service timing wasn’t the issue. Taste was. The cultural dance program after 7:00 PM was fine but underwhelming. It consisted of short couple performances representing different communities (Newar, Gurung, Tamang, etc.). While it was nice to see cultural representation, each performance lasted only a few minutes and felt more like a brief showcase than a meaningful presentation. Given the price point, the overall experience, both food and cultural program could and should be significantly better. This place feels curated mainly for foreign tourists who may not have a deep understanding of Nepali food and culture. For them, it might feel exotic and impressive. But for locals and foreigners with deep understanding of Nepal, the value simply isn’t there. Overall: decent concept, but execution doesn’t justify the price tag. And lastly, if you’re Nepali and want the real food, look somewhere else (effort for cultural show is bare minimum), unless you wanna spill your money. Mantra Thakali & Daura Thakali are 100x better. “ekchoti gayera herdim na ta” is not worth it.

Worst experience🥱 Food was okay Cultural dance 👍 Service 👎 Do visit to experience the vibrant Nepali cultural dances — a wonderful showcase of diverse traditions and rhythms. You’ll truly enjoy the performances, though the long wait for service might make the experience feel a bit less exciting.

Dining at Bhojan Griha was a truly memorable experience, not just for the setting and cultural performances, but for the genuine kindness of the owner and staff. From the moment we arrived, our group was welcomed with such warmth. The owner went out of his way to make sure everyone felt comfortable, personally checking in and creating an atmosphere that felt both generous and heartfelt. You could feel that this wasn’t just a business—it was something he genuinely cared about sharing. What stood out most was how enthusiastically our group was received. There was a real sense of appreciation for us being there, and that energy carried through the entire evening—from the attentive service to the lively cultural performances. The food was traditional and satisfying, but what made the night special was the spirit of hospitality. It felt like being invited into something meaningful rather than simply dining out. A beautiful evening, made even more special by the kindness behind it.

Really, really wonderful. Filling dinner plus a show. Eat slow, enjoy the time. Get in on the dancing - it’s loads of fun. 10/10 recommend. Also the Sarangi makes for a great memento.

A place that is perfect to experience the taste of Nepal. The food served here is an experience that showcases the traditional dining of Nepal with live traditional dance and music to go with. Slightly expensive but definitely worth it. You teuly wont regret dining here. In addition the building where this establishment is located happens to be a historical one where teh Bada Gurju of the then Rana rulers lived.

Good place to have traditional Nepali food watching their cultural performances. Food is good had to eat sitting on a cushion on the floor as their tradition. However they do have chairs for people who cannot sit on the floor.

They had prepared us halal meal upon our request (we were a big group tho). This is the most appreciated thing for a Muslim struggling to find a halal place in Kathmandu. The Nepali food here was the best compared to the other places we've eaten. The staff is very friendly, the atmosphere is so warm. There are sitting areas with or without traditional dance show, so you can choose. Friendly advice to wear nice socks if you're going there :)

Nepalska restauracja z klimatem i tradycjami. Ogólnie bardzo nam się podobał cały wieczór! Świetne jedzenie 😀 małe porcje przekąsek pozwoliły spróbować wszystkiego 😀 główne danie dal bhat było rewelacyjne! Deser i napoje również bardzo dobre! Czas umilały śpiewy i nepalskie tańce. Zdecydowanie polecam!!!😀
