Positiv: Nach einigen negativen Bewertungen waren wir zunächst skeptisch, wurden aber sehr positiv überrascht. Wir waren 7 Nächte im Hotel. Das Zimmer (202) hatte sehr bequeme Betten, es gab jeden Tag frische Handtücher und auch die Bettwäsche wurde regelmäßig gewechselt. Zudem waren alle notwendigen Dinge wie Föhn, Duschgel etc. vorhanden. Es war grundsätzlich stets sauber. Die Lage hat natürlich Chinatown Flair, sodass es auf den Straßen durchaus dreckig und laut ist, dafür ist das Financial District mit z.B. World Trade Center zu Fuß erreichbar (ca. 20-30 Minuten). Möchte man in einen weiter entfernteren Bereich, stehen einige Subway-Stationen wie East Broadway, Grand Street, Canal Street oder Delancey Street/ Essex Street in unmittelbarer Fußnähe zur Verfügung (ca. 5-15 Minuten). Das Personal an der Rezeption war auch freundlich, einmal wollten wir einen Dollar in 25 Cent wechseln für die Schließfächer an der Freiheitsstatue, die Dame an der Rezeption gab uns einfach mehrere 25 Cent Stücke ohne den Dollarschein zu nehmen. Dies fanden wir auch sehr freundlich und entgegenkommend. Auch die angekündigte Kaution mussten wir nicht zahlen, was wir ebenfalls sehr angenehm fanden. Auch das WLAN ist für ein Hotel echt gut, Videos können problemlos gestreamt werden. Negativ: Der Duschvorhang war etwas zu kurz, sodass nach dem Duschen das Bad schnell nass wurde. Durch den täglichen Handtuchwechsel jedoch weniger problematisch. Teilweise waren manche Bettdecken nicht mehr einwandfrei, manche hatten Flecken die vermutlich nicht mehr rauszuwaschen sind oder waren leicht eingerissen. Die Stecker der elektronischen Geräte wie Lampe oder Fernseher waren teilweise verbogen sodass sie sich nicht mehr einstecken ließen, zumindest den Lampenstecker konnte man aber so hinbiegen, dass er sich wieder einstecken ließ und die Lampe funktionierte. Dies sollte überprüft werden. Auch die Klobrille wirkte älter und abgenutzt. Eine Nacht war es auf dem Gang etwas laut. Insgesamt aber alles für uns wenig problematisch, gerade auch weil der Preis im Vergleich zu anderen Hotels wirklich günstig ist. Insgesamt: Gutes und günstiges Hotel für einen einwöchigen New York-Sightseeing-Trip.

Wasn't sure if this was a pay by hour kind of hotel and if it isn't then they need to work on it. It'll do for a quick stay but would not use as a vacation hotel. The most positive thing about this hotel is you can walk to plenty of bars and restaurants.

Upon entering our room, we immediately noticed a distinct odor of mold. It was also quite evident that the air conditioner filter had not been changed recently, as the moldy smell became strong as soon as it was turned on. Furthermore, the bathrooms lacked toilet paper, and the body wash and hand soap dispensers were broken, requiring considerable force to dispense anything. Despite the advertised 24-hour desk service on their website and at the front desk, assistance was scarce in the mornings and sometimes in the evenings. Consequently, we were unable to retrieve our deposit due to our early morning flight, which was quite frustrating. Moreover, when staff members were present, some exhibited unnecessary rudeness. Overall, the service was far from satisfactory. The only positive aspect was the location, being situated in the heart of Chinatown and Little Italy, with proximity to the Brooklyn Bridge. However, it would be advisable to seek alternative accommodations, as there are other budget-friendly hotels in lower Manhattan that offer a better experience. We stayed for five nights.

This was a very interesting hotel stay. Upon my arrival, my city view room I was assigned was apparently “occupied,” as it had a physical key sitting in the door and someone singing loud Spanish music in it. I knocked on the door with no answer. I thought maybe staff were possibly still cleaning the room so I waited a few more minutes and then knocked again. Finally, a man with no shirt opens the door and says the room was in fact HIS. [The hotel uses key cards so not sure what kind of access this gentleman has with his actual physical key sitting in the door.] Anyhow, I was then given a “new” room that looked out to the back of the hotel and other back apartments instead of looking into Canal street, with a sliver of a view of the bridge- I guess that was my new “city view?” This room looked rough, definitely in need of some TLC with stains and dings everywhere. I had to run to an appointment but when I returned to the hotel that night I realized the bathroom had a VERY unpleasant and high-pitched sound coming out of the ceiling/light fixture area (I have a video of it but don’t think I am able to post it). I had to keep the door closed in order to almost keep the sound away. It was awful. I had to sleep with earplugs both nights and also had to wear them while in the room in general. Lastly, when I went to use the chain lock on my door, it was broken off. This was not comforting as the front doors stay open with front desk staff member’s not physically at the front desk 24/7, so anyone can just walk in. Suffice to say I have never experienced a stay like this and I can’t say I recommend this hotel. I was sadly very disappointed with my stay and feel the cost was not justified by a long shot.

unique experience that you will not want to experience. 24/7 reception was a lie, there's seldom people at the desk and you have to leave your luggage at the lobby with no one attending. if you lose anything, it will be on you. the hotel main entrance has no key access and anybody can enter the hotel to the lift and to your rooms :) very unpleasant experience, hair dryer was not working and no body lotion only soap bars. room was facing the road and you can hear all kinds of noises outside. the neighbourhood is not the most dangerous but its not the cleanest as well. pay abit more for a better experience elsewhere.

My stay at the Canal Loft Hotel ended up being a genuinely pleasant surprise, especially after reading some of the previous reviews that honestly made me a bit uneasy before arriving. I had seen multiple comments mentioning bedbugs, cockroaches, dirty conditions, and rude or unprofessional staff—but my experience was quite the opposite. From the moment we arrived, the service stood out. The attendant at the front desk kindly offered to hold our bags while we explored the neighborhood before check-in, which was a great start to our trip. When it came time to check in, we were only charged our booking fee—there was no unexpected $100 cash or card deposit like some reviews had mentioned (honestly, I don’t feel bad. A deposit would have been unexpected as any hotel requires this from where I am from). We reserved a two twin bed room and were pleasantly surprised by how spacious it was, as well as the amenities included, which were a Refrigerator freezer combo, microwave and even an iron if needed. The bathroom, in particular, exceeded our expectations in size and comfort. some reviews noted that the plumbing was loud and locked hot water. We did not encounter any bedbugs, cockroaches, or cleanliness issues ( believe me I looked and even brought a light to be sure) of that nature, Nor did we experience any loud plumbing or lack of hot during our stay. The only minor downside was that one of the comforters had noticeable oil stains, but considering the price point of the hotel, it wasn’t something we felt detracted significantly from the overall experience. There were also concerns in past reviews about the area being sketchy at night or dealing with loud, unruly people. Personally, we didn’t experience any of that. While it’s possible that things vary depending on the time or day, our stay felt safe and uneventful in that regard. I will say that we didn’t stay in the hotel often as we were too busy exploring the areas and sightseeing, which is what we came there for. During a midday nap, you could hear the trains and the locals living life as well however, I felt that to be part of the New York experience. The hotel’s location is also a big plus, with easy access to multiple public transportation options, making it very convenient to get around the city. The staff deserves special mention—every one of the three attendants we interacted with was polite, courteous, and helpful, especially when it came to navigating the area. On our checkout day, we asked if it would be possible to extend our checkout from 11 AM to noon since our flight wasn’t until 3 PM. The receptionist was very accommodating and happily granted the extension - with no extra charge. One thing worth noting: we did see two extremely large rats outside, roughly the size of a six-month-old kitten. This was the middle of the night around 2 a.m.- While that was definitely startling, it seemed more reflective of the city environment—especially with garbage left out for collection—rather than an issue with the hotel itself. Overall, despite some of the negative reviews we had read beforehand, our experience was positive. For the price, location, and level of service we received, we felt the stay was well worth it and would consider returning. The only tip of encouragement I could offer management staff would be that emergency exit plan should be located throughout the building as well as on the door of the individual rooms. It is my knowledge that if there have been an emergency event, such as a fire, we would not have known how to exit the hotel other than the elevator, which could’ve been problematic.

Definitely will not be booking here again. If anyone is thinking about it check out the Leon hotel first. We wanted to try a different hotel but we’re disappointed with our choice and experience. The Canal Loft’s only thing going for them is the convenience to Highline Deli II . Unsatisfactory customer service, no room cleaning, stingy with the toilet paper and please take note there are Roaches 🪳 . Every night we would kill about 5. We could not leave because all was paid. I would not recommend this hotel to anyone.

Erstmal das positive: Der Preis ist günstig und die Lage mit guter Bahnanbindung top. Leider überwiegt aber das Negative und das ist vor allem die mangelhafte Hygiene. Auf unserem Bett waren viele fremde dunkle Haare. Es wirkte nicht so als sei das Zimmer nach den letzten Gästen gereinigt worden. Das Personal wirkt bei Nachfragen genervt. Ich würde nicht noch einmal hier übernachten.

We stayed here in September. Honestly this was really good stay, we were concerned about some negative comments , but everything was clean and there was no odor or any kind of smell. For students and people on budget that want a nice place for this price that is really close to everything New York has to offer this is definitely a option that you should consider.

Standort und Preis sind gut. Innerhalb von 5-10 Gehminuten ist man entweder an der Bushaltestelle oder an der U-Bahn. Bis zur Brooklyn Bridge sind es ca 15-20 Gehmiuten. Das Hotelzimmer ist wie bereits beschrieben etwas renovierungsbedürftig und könnte etwas ordentlicher gereinigt werden. (Auf der „frisch“ bezogenen Bettdecke waren Haare zu finden). Die Klimaanlage braucht seine zeit bis sie das Zimmer aufwärmt. Beim Personal an der Rezeption ist es wie bei einem Glücksrad. Je nach Mitarbeiter wird man nett empfangen und auch zuvorkommend geholfen oder man wird genervt weg gewunken. Für Personen, welche eine Unterkunft zum Schlafen+Duschen suchen, eignet sich die Unterkunft, aus meiner Sicht, aufgrund des Preis-/Leistungsprinzip dennoch.

Wouldn't stay again.... location good for Broklyn Bridge. China town is rough as, but never felt unsafe. Hotel reception is unmanned most of day, have to call for help. Was just adequate for price. Handy for subway. If staying here go up Little Italy a short walk away for meals, some real good renonable restaurants. Yes it's New York hustle and Bustle but not a good hotel.

Canal Loft Hotel in NY is located in a very AWFUL location and the Mgr Sophie is absolutely helpless!!! - I made a double booked reservation by mistake and the hotel charged the whole $800 when I didn’t even do the check in, she said she couldn’t help because the reservation was already cancelled and that it was up to the 3rd party (Hotels.com) in this case, and Hotels said that Canal Loft didn’t want to help, so this is just a total dishonesty by both sides…. AWFUL EXPERIENCE AND TREATMENT!!! - I can understand the policies but charging the whole amount instead of one night only or not giving some credit back it’s RIDICULOUS AND ABUSIVE!!!

This hotel is a dump! My first room had no TV and holes in the walls. The second room I thought waa an upgrade but turned out to have roaches!! I alamso overheard a woman saying her sheets smelled like sweat. And the receptionist rudely said " so what do you want me to do?" No refunds of any kind offered. Never again!!

If I could give zero stars I would. Made an reservation and had to cancel. Called and emailed within the window to cancel and not incur charges. I was still fully charged. I’ve contacted them several times and have been getting the runaround. Been told that the manager is away for a week and that they’re actually really not there at all. The person today 3/16/26 that answered the phone Sophie was so rude, said “I just got to work, it’s 9AM, there’s nothing I can do for you, I’m not the one who promised you anything.” Worst customer service! Don’t trust them with your money!

Please avoid this hotel at all costs No one was manning the reception for a good 40mins when we arrived, despite a note saying she will be back in 10 mins. So many of the guests were frustrated and left, then we were asked to leave our luggages at the hallway which was unsafe since we saw that no one was at the reception table for a long while. So we decided to check in earlier at 11am with additional USD50. We had balance to be paid to the hotel of USD 45, receptionist instead wanted to charge me USD90+ and couldn't provide a breakdown between taxes and service. The room was very dark with only a pathetic lamp at the corner of the room. Our room faced the street so it was extremely noisy when we tried to nap after we checked in at 11am. There is no body wash provided in the hotel and no bottled water. There is a lounge area which smell like cigarette smoke, horrible place. The hotel is 400m away from metro station which is a short walk with luggages. The entire area was filthy as well, highly recommend not to book with this hotel

We stayed there for three nights when visiting New York before take a cruise in New Jersey on 10/16/2025. Even this hotel being very basic, our experience was very good and we have no complaints. For the price paid nobody can beat this location and the service provided. Some comments: the bathrooms are very large and clean with a very good shower. Towels are supplied at your request and they are also clean and smelling fresh. Rooms are large, neat and very clean with no smell at all. Bed is comfortable and clean. They don't offer daily rooms service but they supply all needs like soap, towels, etc. The rooms facing the street are a bit noisy because it is in a busy area. Our room was 311 and it was facing the street. They do not offer breakfast but there is an eating area where you can buy your food and eat there. The area has a lot of restaurants and places to buy food. It has elevator and stairs. They keep your luggage in case you arrive early or leave late. Their WIFI is free and fast all over the building. One thing they should have better: The front lobby should look better and their personnel should at least wear uniform to be distinguished from the costumer. We don't know who is who when we arrived and even while our stay. Also the front lobby old furniture is not attractive. I would return to this basic hotel when visiting New York again.

Great location and hotel! I was worried since I read about the bedbugs from other reviews and were fully prepared to book another hotel. We get there and first thing is check the bed. All was good and clean! Elevator wasn't slow for us (we were on the 3rd floor), there was always someone at the front desk (and if not they had a number you can contact), about a 5 minute walk to the subway station (big plus for us!), and great food in the area. Room was a decent size (also exactly as advertised in pics in the Booking.com app). Sheets were thin but I just turned the AC up. Stains on carpet (but this is every hotel and it didn't bother us). There are rules in the front desk. If you want extra towels make sure to request that in the morning at the front desk. Overall, great location, good hotel, good value🙂

The hotel is functional, I'll give it that. It's a good place if you just need a place to sleep. Staff is nice. However there are many problems. The walls and doors are razor thin and block 0 sound, so you can hear almost everything going on in adjacent rooms and in the hallway, like doors closing, water running and conversations. The elevator is also EXTREMELY slow. It took me almost a full minute to go up to the 3rd floor. They also turned off the hot water boiler for whatever reason.
