A lovely spot to visit during the evening, especially if you’re looking for scenic ocean views and great photos for social media. The elevated viewpoint and line of coconut trees create a beautiful backdrop, particularly around sunset. It does feel a bit less dense than expected as several trees seem to have been cut, but it’s still a nice quick stop if you’re in the area.

We visited here in May 2026, and it seems that many of the coconut trees were either cut or struck down by the heavy winds. Nevertheless there are still many trees left and the views are fantastic, still worth it to visit definitely. And above all, you can visit completely for free. You can just park your motorbike for free on the big street. If you go inside the street, expect to pay the local parking man a fee to park your bike.

We visited Coconut Tree Hill in Mirissa and the view was still beautiful as always, with a stunning coastal scenery that makes it worth the visit. There is paid parking available, which is convenient. However, compared to our last visit, the place didn’t feel as well maintained. It seems like less attention is given to cleanliness and upkeep now, which slightly affects the overall experience. It would be great if more care was taken to preserve this iconic spot. Still, the view is amazing and definitely worth seeing at least once.

you are in Mirissa, do not miss this spot. Coconut Tree Hill offers a stunning vantage point over the ocean and is easily one of the best spots for watching the sunset. The unique cliffside covered in leaning coconut palms makes for incredible photos, especially as the sky starts to change colors. It can get a bit crowded with sunset-watchers, but the view of the waves and the distant coastline is peaceful and spectacular. Highly recommended!

If you are looking for that quintessential tropical viewpoint,Coconut Tree Hill is an absolute must-visit. It is, without a doubt, one of the most stunning and iconic spots in the region. The Experience This place is, in a word, perfect for taking pictures. The combination of the dramatic elevation, the sweeping ocean backdrop, and the cluster of swaying coconut trees makes for incredible, postcard-worthy photos that you won't want to miss. Beyond the photography potential, the view itself is breathtaking; it offers a serene and expansive look at the coastline that is genuinely mesmerizing. Accessibility & Maintenance I was very pleased with how clean and well-maintained the area is. It is refreshing to visit such a popular natural landmark that is kept in such good condition. Furthermore, it is very easy to access, meaning you can spend less time navigating and more time enjoying the scenery. Final Verdict: Whether you are an avid photographer, a fan of stunning landscapes, or just looking for a beautiful spot to take in the views, Coconut Tree Hill delivers on all fronts. It is highly accessible, immaculately kept, and offers some of the most memorable scenery you will find during your trip. Definitely add this to your itinerary!

Coconut Tree Hill in Mirissa is a stunning spot, especially at sunrise or sunset. The view of the ocean framed by tall coconut palms is iconic and perfect for photography. It’s a short and easy walk to the top, making it accessible for most visitors. While it can get busy during peak hours, the atmosphere is still relaxed and worth experiencing. The breeze, the sound of the waves, and the panoramic coastal views make it a great place to pause and enjoy the natural beauty of Sri Lanka. Definitely a must-see when visiting Mirissa.

Coconut Tree Hill offers breathtaking views and an absolutely stunning sunset. The scenery is beautiful, and it’s easy to see why it’s one of the most popular spots in the area. However, when we visited in the evening, it was extremely crowded. It felt like almost every tourist was there, which made it difficult to fully enjoy the place and take photos. If you’re planning to visit, I would recommend going early in the morning when it’s much less crowded and more peaceful. If you prefer visiting during sunset, try climbing down onto the rocks below and finding a quiet spot to sit. Watching the sunset from there is a wonderful experience and a great way to enjoy the view away from the crowds. Overall, the views are amazing and definitely worth seeing, but be prepared for large crowds, especially around sunset.

Coconut tree hill is a 11 minute drive from Mirissa (3 km). You do not have to buy tickets to go there. There is a car park nearby for rs 100. Or you can park by the road. From the road you have a 2 minute walk until you reach the scenic spot. The reddish soil, the towering coconut trees , turquoise ocean and salty breeze gives you the feeling of a tropical paradise. There are juice shops and restaurants nearby if you are thirsty or hungry. It's a breath taking view. The best time to visit it would be early morning for the sun rise and evening for the sunset. But those times would be a bit crowded too. It would be best to visit on weekdays when the crowd is less. There is a path to go down to the shore from the cliff. Even the scorching sun will not be a hindrance to person who loves nature and loves to takes phophotographs. It is an instagrammable spot. 😍😎♥️ So go , visit whenever fate allows you to go there because Coconut Tree Hill is not a disappointment...

Coconut Tree Hill is one of the most beautiful viewpoints in Mirissa, located on the down south of Sri Lanka. This place is famous for its stunning ocean views and picturesque coconut trees, making it a perfect spot for photography. There is no entrance fee to visit, which makes it an excellent attraction for both locals and tourists. I recommend visiting early in the morning, as it becomes quite crowded later in the day. The scenery is amazing, and you'll have plenty of opportunities to take beautiful photos of the coastline and palm trees. The road leading from the main road to the beach is quite narrow, and parking near the entrance can be difficult. Therefore, I used a nearby private parking area on the main Galle Road for a small fee. Overall, Coconut Tree Hill is a must-visit destination in Mirissa. The breathtaking views, peaceful atmosphere, and free access make it one of the best viewpoints on Sri Lanka's down south.

Coconut Tree Hill is one of the most photographed and iconic locations in Sri Lanka, situated on the eastern tip of Mirissa Bay. It is a unique red-cliff promontory densely covered in towering coconut palms, overlooking the turquoise Indian Ocean. 1. What to Expect * The View: It offers a 270-degree panoramic view of the coastline. To the west, you can see the main Mirissa beach, and to the east, the rugged coastline stretching toward Matara. * The Landscape: The soil is a distinct burnt-orange/red color, which contrasts beautifully with the green palms and blue sea. * Snorkeling Access: At the base of the hill is a small rocky bay known as Turtle Point, where you can often spot sea turtles feeding on seagrass in the shallow water. 2. Best Time to Visit * Sunrise: This is the best time for peace and quiet. The light is soft, and you will likely have the hill to yourself for photography. * Sunset: This is the most popular time. While it gets crowded, the golden hour light hitting the red soil and palm trees is spectacular. * March conditions: Since it is currently March, the weather is ideal with clear skies, though it can get very hot by mid-morning, so try to visit before 9:00 AM. 3. How to Get There * Walking: From the main Mirissa beach, you can walk along the shoreline (about 10–15 minutes). You will pass through several beachfront cafes before reaching the path that leads up the hill. * Tuk-Tuk: You can take a short ride from Weligama or Mirissa center. Ask the driver to drop you at the entrance path near Bandaramulla. It is a short, slightly steep 5-minute walk from the road to the top. 4. Tips for Visitors * Footwear: Wear sandals or shoes with a decent grip, as the red soil can be slippery, especially if there has been a light rain. * Photography: If you want the classic "lone palm tree" shot, bring a wide-angle lens. * Respect the Area: It is a private coconut plantation that the owners allow the public to enjoy for free. Please ensure you take all trash back with you.

Iconic Views and Tropical Vibes! "You can't visit Mirissa without stopping at Coconut Tree Hill. It is easily one of the most Instagrammable spots in the country. The walk up is quick, and the reward is a panoramic view of the coastline that you won't forget. The contrast between the red earth, green trees, and turquoise water is stunning. It’s free to access and offers a great perspective of the bay. Highly recommended for a quick morning stroll or a sunset chill-out session!"
