Anything cold in Venice will be reduced in portion, but excruciatingly exaggerated in price. I went over Ponte della Paglia day and night on route to my room. A hot hostel with no cool air. And loads of salt air grit. But anything warm in Venice is affordable. If you are in Venice but can’t afford cold water, it’s okay. Along the way to Ponte della Paglia you will find free water fountains. And at il ponte you can do three activities. You can people watch. You can watch the temperature change. Better in the mornings. In summer you will see the sun’s shadow racing towards Venice. It’s fast. And you can sit with your free water and enjoy your time, however much of it you have. Every time I look at the horizon from here, I am never certain if I am starring at the beginning of somewhere or at the end of somewhere. It feels like one of the world’s pressure points. You will see numerous people, which makes it difficult to know whom is arriving to Venice and whom is departing. But it is undeniably a tender place.

Steht man auf der Ponte della Paglia in Venedig, kennen die meisten nur den einen, berühmten Blick zur Ponte dei Sospiri, der Seufzerbrücke vom Dogenpalast zu den berüchtigten Bleikammern. Sie waren das Gefängnis von Venedig. Den Namen hat die überdachte Brücke der Sage nach, da fast alle Verurteilten beim Blick aus dem Fenster dieser Brücke noch einmal wehmütig geseufzt haben sollen, weil sie nun für eine Ewigkeit nicht mehr das Tageslicht sehen werden. Aber, dass die Ponte della Paglia, die es eigentlich schon seit 1360 als Steinbrücke gibt, und damit wahrscheinlich die älteste Steinbrücke in Venedig ist, werden nicht viele wissen. Ihre heutige Architektur mit den verzierten Aufsätzen auf dem Brückengeländer stammt aus dem Jahr 1847. Und die Fugen damals wurden noch nicht mit Kunststoff oder Silikon ausgefugt, sondern mit Blei oder Zinn vergossen.

Passaggio molto bello, soprattutto architettonicamente ed esteticamente. Leggermente dispersivo è l'arrivo al ponte in quanto se si è turisti non si sa esattamente come arrivarci il più brevemente possibile

Die Ponte della Paglia ist ein beliebter Aussichtspunkt, besonders um einen Blick auf die berühmte Seufzerbrücke zu werfen. Entsprechend gut besucht ist sie – für eine ruhige Pause ist dieser Ort eher ungeeignet. Wer die Brücke selbst in ihrer ganzen Pracht sehen möchte, sollte sie sich lieber vom Vaporetto oder einer Gondel aus anschauen. Jeden z najsłynniejszych punktów widokowych w Wenecji — Ponte della Paglia. To właśnie stąd rozciąga się idealny widok na Most Westchnień oraz malownicze weneckie kanały. Magiczne miejsce na szybki przystanek fotograficzny podczas spaceru po mieście. Dostępne są również kładki, dla na przykład wózków z dziećmi.

Соломенный мост это очень удобная смотровая точка, откуда открывается лучший вид на Мост Вздохов. Сам по себе он ничем особенным не выделяется: обычный каменный мост с перилами, довольно широкий, всегда забит туристами с камерами. Исторически интересен тем, что когда-то здесь разгружали солому для тюремных камер, отсюда и название. Но если не знать этого факта, он ничем не отличается от десятков других мостов Венеции. Просто ещё одно место, где можно сделать стандартное фото, но без него прогулка по городу ничего не потеряет.

This is a busy area with the busy vaporetto spots here. Beware of scammers. You get a nice view of the Bridge of sighs here, as well as views out over the water. There are also gondola spots, which we did not do as it is pretty pricey.

Meaning Bridge of Straw, this Gothic-style stone bridge gets its name from the days when boats loaded with straw would dock nearby to unload their cargo. Originally built in wood in 1360, it was soon reconstructed the same year as the oldest stone bridge in Venice. The current version dates back to 1847. On the side of the bridge, you’ll find a relief sculpture installed in 1583 known as the Madonna dei Gondolieri (Madonna of the Gondoliers), a tribute to Venice’s iconic boatmen. The bridge is also famous as the best spot to view and photograph the Ponte dei Sospiri (Bridge of Sighs), making it a popular stop for tourists.

I love this bridge in the evening — the light here is just perfect for photography. The sun’s position creates a soft, golden glow, and the white stone buildings around reflect the light beautifully. It’s also one of the best spots to take photos with a view of the Ponte dei Sospiri.

Die Ponte della Paglia ist eine gut besuchte Brücke und dient primär als Aussichtspunkt für die Seufzerbrücke. Hier kann man also nicht unbedingt ausruhen. Dennoch ist die Brücke ein sehr schönes Fotomotiv.

A small bridge or point from where you get good view of the majestic grand Canal, lagoons in front, narrow canal in the back and Saint Mark Square, Dodge palace on the other side. Lot of people throng this place to take pics from all side.

Very beautiful and mysterious. It never fails to impress. Whenever you go there, it seems to tell yo a new a story. Every evening is different, all days seem new and each weather has its own colour. Waiting to return soon!

One of the iconic views when visiting Venice. Usually cramped in the high tourist times. You can get a nice relaxed view at other times.
