I used this Library in Abadan for about two months, and I'd like to share my experience. The Farhang Library in Abadan isn’t just a place to store books, or at least, it shouldn’t be. A library should be a true space for growth, thought, and inspiration. Let me start with the positives. For long-term members, there are individual lockers available for rent on a monthly basis. This feature really helps, as it saves users from having to carry all their study materials every day. There’s also a very small area designated for having lunch, along with a hot water dispenser, which is a thoughtful touch. And I have to say, the restrooms are cleaned daily, which is definitely appreciated. However, the overall study space still needs serious improvement. The desks don’t have side partitions, making it difficult to concentrate, and the semi-transparent divider in front of each desk does more harm than good by adding to the visual distraction. One of the biggest issues is the air conditioning system. It’s extremely poor and tends to shut off every one or two hours, leaving the space uncomfortably hot and stuffy, especially during Abadan’s unbearable heat. The library rules are another issue. They’re neither clearly posted nor enforced. Ironically, it’s often the voices of one particular staff member that break the silence, more than the users themselves. When you compare the limited facilities to the price of membership, the fee seems unjustifiably high. It just doesn’t match the quality of service. And to the city officials: if you're ever tired of looting and embezzling, perhaps you could spare a moment to think about the cultural infrastructure of this city. A properly run library might not line your pockets, but it could actually give this city’s youth a future. I truly hope the management takes meaningful steps to improve this space. A library shouldn’t just be a quiet room, it should be a dynamic, inspiring environment where young minds can truly flourish. As Henry Ward Beecher said, “A library is not a luxury but one of the necessities of life.”
