Ali Sadr Cave (Ghar-e Ali Sadr / غار علیصدر) is one of the largest and most spectacular water caves in the world, located near Kabudarahang in Hamadan Province, Iran. Famous for its vast underground lakes, crystal-clear waterways, and impressive limestone formations, it is one of Iran’s most unique natural attractions.
The cave was formed over millions of years through geological processes in the Jurassic period, as water gradually dissolved the limestone rocks and created a complex network of tunnels and chambers. Inside the cave, visitors can travel by boat through underground waterways surrounded by towering stalactites, stalagmites, and naturally sculpted rock formations.
Local people had known about the cave for centuries, but its modern exploration began in the 1960s, and it was opened to the public in 1975. The name Ali Sadr comes from the nearby village where the cave is located.
The cave system is remarkable for its size, with some chambers reaching enormous dimensions. The underground lake is fed by natural water sources, and the clear water allows visitors to see the depth and beauty of the cave environment.
Ali Sadr Cave is not only a geological wonder but also an important example of Iran’s natural heritage. The combination of ancient geological history, underground waterways, and breathtaking formations makes it a destination unlike any other.
A must-visit place for nature lovers, adventure seekers, and anyone interested in the hidden wonders beneath the landscapes of Iran.
