An absolute architectural gem in the heart of Lahore! Built in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, this red sandstone building is a stunning example of colonial-era design. Designed by the legendary Sir Ganga Ram, it beautifully blends Victorian and Mughal styles. A must-visit for anyone interested in the city’s rich heritage.

This is the GPO, which stands for General Post Office. This building is also very historic, with many people visiting just to admire its beauty rather than to mail items. This demonstrates the building's attraction. The GPO sends parcels and shipments all over the world at very reasonable prices. They offer multiple services, including international mail, UMS, and utility bill payments. I hope they continue to provide good service to the people.

It was a good experience, staff cooperative. Understand customer support is 5 start. Reform in Pakistan post is appreciated.

10/10 for building structure, i mean it's old but beautiful. 5/10 for staff members, some will talk to you kindly and some won't even listen. I have added a picture that what kind of things could be done here. Hundred and thousands of people have saving accounts here, you'll see piles of registers and files in each room and all the data is stored mostly by hand. It is the main Post office from where you can send parcels to any branch in Pakistan. You can pay your bills here. Transfer money and much more.

The experience was not so bad, generally people are willing to help if you ask politely. The infrastructure is rather old and rusted. IMO (International mail office) timings are from 10:00-16:00 but you should always arrive around 10:00 or 11:00 to make sure you'll get your work done, because usually employees don't work after 13:00 as it's a government facility and they're lazy even though they're sitting in their offices but they won't do the work after a certain time. It's a big site so you might feel lost in certain places but there are signs almost everywhere. There is a customer care office just upon entering through the front gate and they can easily give you contact numbers of different post offices and help you navigate aswell. EP(express post) delivery office will hand you the parcel directly (if they have it) after asking for some amount of cash usually RS150 while the other offices won't give you the parcel directly but they would rather send it to the address mentioned on the package.

GPO Lahore Built-in 1887 to celebrate Queen Victoria’s Golden Jubilee, the General Post Office (GPO) is located on Mall Road, near Anarkali. GPO is Pakistan’s largest post office, and it handles almost 20 000 mails daily. Sir Ganga Ram, one of the most renowned architects of his time, designed the building. GPO not only represents a contrast between the means of communication during the British Raj and the modern means of communication but is also a classic example of how a place evolves to meet the changing demands of different eras. Initially, people only used to go to GPO to send letters to their relatives and friends, but with the rapid technological improvements, people can now transfer money and goods in any part of the world. The Post Office has a classical colonial institutional arhitecture. You could film an Agatha Christie movie there, from the furniture to the classical post office worker. It looks a bit frozen in time. I went to but stamps for friend there and it was a nice experience, with people amiable and helpful

It was built in 1887 to commemorate Queen Victoria's Golden Jubilee and replaced the telegraph office of Anarkali Bazar. The building was designed and built by Sir Ganga Ram, one of the leading architects of that time, and was built near the shrine of the 17th century saint Shah Chiragh.

Highly disappointing. Firstly they probably don't care about their own HS codes and are charging you extra CD, Additional CD and Regulatory Duties for any given item. Secondly they check your package like it's for their personal use and that happened to me multiple times. As seen in the pictures, ordered a Myprotein powder and 500 g was spilled in the cardboard box, with some also stuck to the resealable bag (look at the pictures). Also they didn't care to look at the "scissors" sign on a resealable bag. Once I went to the Customs Office to claim an item and a dude with his 4 subordinates (maybe the AC, though not sure) was checking some customer's Daari Mooch Beard oil by applying it on his freaking shirt. His subordinate had to tell him that it's meant for the beard, not the clothes.😄. Irresponsibility incarnate.

The GPO building is accessible through two main gates: Gate 1 serves as the primary entrance, while Gate 2, situated at the intersection of McLeod Road and the Mall, functions as the hub for incoming and outgoing mail.[2] On average, it handles 20,000 pieces of mail per day.[1] The building consists of two main halls and two minarets.[1][2] It is organized into three main sections: Domestic Mail and Financial Services, the International Mail Office (managed by the controller, who also meets with the Post Master General), and the Delivery Service, where bulk mail is processed and dispatched.[2] The Domestic Mail area includes counters for public mail deposits and collections and features a seller of historical stamps, highlighting the evolution of postal costs from 20 paisas to the current eight rupees for a basic stamp.[2] At the center of the GPO’s operations is the Chief Post Master's office, located upstairs beneath the malfunctioning clock tower and an historical iron bell marked "Made in 1860."[2] Nearby, the treasury department is located which records the transactions of stamps.[2]

Absolutely worst mail service ever, no one even informs you if your mail is being delivered or not, yesterday I call the helpline of Pakistan post to check for the delivery of my driver's licence (which I need urgently) and they said if the delivery guy doesn't deliver by 5 pm call the helpline to register your complaint but by 5 pm my parcel was not delivered so I called the helpline to register my complaint, but there was no one available to provide me any service and they told me to call tomorrow at 8 am today when I call there still is no one available to answer my call, worst possible mail service ever, would not even recommend to my

Worthy place for a casual visit even though it's not a place for recreation or fun. Old building of GPO has been preserved in the original state which is iconic. History and art lovers should visit it once. Employees here treat public just like any other public government office. They have no respect or empathy for customers. Cleanliness of the building needs to be improved a lot. A security guard there informed us to stop taking pictures there even though it's not mentioned anywhere in premises of GPO. In the basement of building, there's darkness in absence of electricity and there's no arrangement of alternative power supply.

It’s a historical architecture which was designed by Sir Ganga Ram during British India, initially a telegraph office but now country’s biggest post office. It has a special commemorative stamp section in there too. Make sure to take a copy of CNIC if you’re sending something abroad, otherwise they won’t let you send it. If you get something imported from abroad, then expect to pay heavy custom duty on it. Anything with an IMEI no. requires an NOC from PTA which you can obtain from them for a fee. On top of that you’ll also need to pay steep custom duty to the post office. The staff is ok if not great. There is literally no parking outside the office, and you’ll need to find it nearby somewhere.

The General Post Office (GPO) building in Lahore is a majestic architectural wonder that exudes a sense of grandeur and historical significance. Designed by Sir Ganga Ram in 1887, this iconic building is a testament to the city's rich cultural heritage. The exterior of the building is a stunning example of Victorian-era architecture, with intricate stone carvings, ornate balconies, and a majestic clock tower that dominates the skyline. As you step inside, you're greeted by beautifully crafted wooden staircases, ornate ceilings, and spacious halls that whisper tales of a bygone era. The GPO building is not just a architectural marvel, but also a living piece of history that has witnessed many significant events, including the country's struggle for independence. Today, the building stands as a proud symbol of Pakistan's rich cultural heritage, and its beautifully preserved and maintained structure is a testament to the city's commitment to preserving its history. Whether you're a history buff, an architecture enthusiast, or simply a curious visitor, the GPO building is a must-visit destination that promises to leave you in awe of its beauty, significance, and timeless charm.
