Jimbu Thakali by Capital Grill, Tangal

The name of the restaurant is very interesting, and since it was just a few steps from my hotel, I decided to go there for dinner. I ordered the Nepalese Thali, and it was amazing. The black lentils were especially outstanding compliment to the chef. My mango lassi was just okay, but everything else more than made up for it. I’m not sure how people rate this restaurant, but I highly recommend it. Great food and great service. My server, Mr. Rahul Chaudhary, provided outstanding service many thanks to him. I will definitely go there again to try something else.

I love the food here. It’s a place for everyone including family,friends,work colleagues. The non-veg thali is always good but the veg one is also one of my favorites here. Tried the sandwich this time; it was a version of French toast and ham cheese sandwich. The fries were crispy and so yum 🤤😋

Had a lovely dining experience at Jimbu Thakali. The food was absolutely delicious and comforting. We enjoyed Dhido with both fish thali and chicken thali, along with Nepali-style chicken sukka, tea, and fresh orange juice. Everything was flavorful and beautifully prepared. A special appreciation to Mr. Rahul for his exceptional service. He was kind, attentive, and very welcoming, and made sure we were comfortable throughout the meal. His hospitality truly enhanced our experience. Highly recommended for authentic Thakali food and warm service.

What a great experience I had here, specially the staffs they were really friendly and hospitable. I had Chicken Thali set which was amazing. Sadly, i couldn’t finish some dishes as I was slightly ill on that day. Definitely must visit place for friends and families for lunch or dinner.

Despite its decade-long reputation, my recent visit was honestly a letdown. While the service was acceptable, the food failed to meet even basic standards. We try there's: Angel Wings (0.1/10): Advertised as oven-baked, these were clearly deep-fried from frozen. The flavor was completely overpowered by celery, and tests like bush lacking any balanced seasoning. Creamy Wild Mushroom Croquettes (2/10): These lacked the "creamy" mouthfee and texture. Furthermore, they didn't seem to use wild mushrooms and, once again, were overpowered by an aggressive celery taste. Chicken Sekuwa (3/10): Using chicken breast made the meat incredibly dry and overcooked. It lacked the marination of Nepali spices you’d expect from a local favorite. Serving sekuwa with mint chutney also felt like an odd. Signature Thakali khana (average): This was the only "average" part of the meal. It was fine, but certainly not the best in the town.

I prefer their grills when I am there rather than focusing on just thakali items. had a cheli jwai thakali with compliments the local thakali with mutton kabaf and chicken curry included and ending with some sweets. delightfully satisfied and satiated. We also ordered the Chef Special Chicken thigh which was garnished with a delicious thick creamy sauce but the pesto pasta could be improved.

Rahul was great- very hospitable and attentive to refilling the plate when needed. Dhal Bhat is amazing here- the flavor and consistency is great. Also! They have a flourless brownie and that was the perfect desert. Jimbu Thakali is a must try!

The staff were friendly, and the service was quick. We had lunch out on the rooftop, & I was glad to see they have plenty of shade so you can actually enjoy the view comfortably. We ordered the Chicken Thakali, Chicken Burger, and Chicken Momo, everything was fine. A major plus is the free private parking, which is always a relief to find. Just a heads-up, the restaurant isn't wheelchair accessible as there is no step-free access. Overall, a solid spot with a lovely vibe.

Been here for many times for lunch n dinner and had never posted before so here i do,nowadays one can find a Thakali restaurant right in every streets of Kathmandu,but this place here just feels nostalgic since its quite a few years old now and i think this was their first outlet,they have renovated and this place never disappoints at all.And now since their business has grown,they have opened up some few branches all around Kathmandu and Lalitpur…The quality of the foods served here are top notch,the same quality and consistency for years thats why its very popular and quite busy during peak hours,The service standards are very attentive too…They now have an extensive food menus catering to all kind of taste buds,from the local Thakali sets to Continental cuisines as well,wide variety of drinks,both alcoholic and non alcoholic,teas and coffees and delicious deserts as well😚,A go to place for lunch and dinner,and for also a casual evening drinks with ur friends and family since they got a bar too…Highly recommended restro if ones around Kathmadu…

Good food. We tried the dhedo thakali thali and it was really nice. The place has a good outdoor seating. There are a variety of options to choose from if you are not up for the local food. The dessert was surprisingly good and a healthier version. The staffs are nice and helpful.

Amazing place, food is scrumptious and the service provided by Rahul is super.. Loved the ambience and the setup..Will definitely visit again.. try their traditional Nepalese dishes.. they are yummy!

Just got back from dinner at Jimbu Thakali. Good ambience, Service was excellent, Very friendly and polite servers. Veg thakali set was good, Chicken thakali set was ok (personally i prefer jhol chicken in thakali rather than gravy). Felt a bit strong taste of turmeric in daal. Guard dai was very humble.

Went there for lunch ….and had a good time.. the traditional Nepali food i ordered was fresh and tasty. The staff were very helpful and well behaved… the vibe and ambience was very good too. I will surely visit again next time on my trip to Nepal. 👍

Nice restaurant with indoor and outdoor seating. Friendly service, nice ambience, and yummy food. Offering both local cuisine and some western food. Mushroom croquettes and tri mushroom were our favorite.

This was a gem located in Tangal, amazing food and the service by Rahul was excellent.. the ambience was great.. would 5/5 recommend and visit again
