A stunning place for a scenic drive and some light hiking. The rock formations are fascinating, and the Cholla Cactus Garden looks like something from a Dr. Seuss book (just don’t touch them!). It’s very well-maintained, but it gets crowded on weekends, especially Valentine’s Day (Heart Rock) so arrive early to beat the heat and the gate lines.

Spectacular views and scenery. Sunset is simply amazing and unique from the park. There is a cactus nursery that is worth the stop as well. Skull rock and some climbing spots are also very popular. Beautiful park overall and well worth the price and visit.

This is a really magical place. I hope I can go back one day. We entered the park while on a road trip from Tucson —> Palm Springs. We entered at the Cottonwood visitor centre, and were greeted by a beyond lovely ranger, who engaged my little kids immediately. We checked out the cottonwood Oasis, then drove to Skull rock where the kids loved exploring on the boulders. We then drove to the keys view (gorgeous) and did another short walk (about an hr w kids) at Hidden Valley. Being there on a warm day, while the sun was starting to set, made it extra special

One of the most breathtaking places I've ever visited. Joshua Tree National Park holds a very special energy — quiet, ancient, and deeply grounding. The landscape looks almost surreal, like stepping into another dimension where time slows down and your breath grows deeper. We visited during sunset, and the sky unfolded in layers of gold, lavender, and soft pink. The silhouettes of the Joshua trees against that glowing sky were absolutely unforgettable. The park is vast and peaceful. Whether you’re hiking, meditating, taking photos, or simply sitting on a warm rock watching the world go silent, this place invites you to reconnect with yourself. Perfect for: • star-gazing • sunrise & sunset photography • quiet reflection • nature lovers • anyone wanting a moment away from the busy world Roads are well-maintained, signs are clear, and the rangers are helpful. Bring plenty of water and stay until the stars come out — it's one of the most beautiful night skies you'll ever see. A must-visit national park. Highly recommended. We will definitely return.

CHOLA CACTUS GARDENS WERE CLOSED February 5th, 2026 - check before you go. If you enter in from the west wide of the park from Joshua Tree, you will pass a small parking area with a bathroom before reaching the place to pay. You'll pay at a booth $30 for a seven day pass. They have other options as well. You'll be met with a landscape of Joshua Trees almost immediately upon approach or the park. There are impressive and almost alien rock formations throughout the entire park. It will take at least almost two hours to drive from one end of the park to the other. If you do drive through the entire thing, it will take you to 29 Palms on the east end. One you hit the turnoff for the Chola Gardens, there will be NO outhouse/restrooms so go before. Hundreds of viewpoints along the road to stop at. They also have multiple campgrounds throughout the entire park. It is only a two land road in and out so you may find yourself behind a slower moving RV etc. plenty of great trails to hike or varying levels and so many great options for places to have picnics as well.

Felt unworldly! Beautiful park with abundant hiking. Joshua trees were just starting to bloom. The rock formations are incredible. We started early to beat the crowds. Hiked: Ryan’s mountain- steep incline but great views at the top. Hall of Horrors- enjoyed exploring the rock formations. Lost horse mine trail- did the full loop. About 6.5 miles. A little of everything on that trail. Cool rock formations, abandoned gold mines and a desert landscape hike at the end. Could spend several days there hiking & exploring additional trails.

It was a great park with many cool rocks and amazing plants. I loved the cacti and the Joshua Trees were so unique. Although many of the attractions were crowded if you get there early enough you can see them all without any crowd. My favorite hike was the panorama view loop which had stunning views.

We planned for an hour and spent three. We filled the tank with gas and loaded up with water. We had three extra bottles of water for each person. If we had more time in CA I would have planned a second trip to include a sunrise or sunset in the park. We downloaded an audio tour and it was pretty good. It worked 80%-90% of the time. I would call it successful. It really gave us an understanding of history, fun facts and what was ahead by the way of a hike, the difficulty and estimated time. Almost all the major sites had great parking and public restrooms and trash. Our car did struggle to keep us cool and found switching to fresh air allowed it to better cool. We did a few hikes and exploring of rocks formations. We had elderly parents and they were able to walk into a few areas like skull rock and keys look out. The weather was magnificent. Wish we could pulled off and overnight in the park someday. On the way home we stopped for BBQ in Pioneertown.

We visited Joshua Tree last May as a stop on our way to LA, and it was absolutely the right decision. It is an incredibly impressive piece of nature that feels like another planet. The unique rock formations and the iconic trees are even more stunning in person than in photos. May was a perfect time to visit—warm but still manageable for short walks. If you’re driving through Southern California, do not skip this; it’s a breathtaking landscape and a true highlight of our trip.

Get the map at the visitor center before you go, it's very helpful and shows you the hikes and has a lot of good information. We visited in early January and had no problem with parking. There's plenty of bathrooms and picnic tables around. It was pretty cold and windy today we went so do check the weather. Summer gets really hot so be prepared if you're going at that time. Enjoy!

The Land of the tree from “The Lorax”. I was not prepared for the size and scale of this park. It was amazing from the Joshua Trees and cactus plants to the granite boulder mountains and loose stones which make up the park. From one of the views you see the famous San Andreas fault and overlook Palm Springs and the Coachella Valley. The skull rock is amazing. We did a one mile loop which was not too difficult but if you have mobility issues it is probably best to skip the hike. There are lots of granite stairs to climb up and there is a lot of sand which can make things slippery. You need to bring food and water with you as it is not available in the park. Also sturdy shoes and a hat and sunscreen are recommended. It is such a unique experience and I recommend it 100%

Stunning! So much to do and see! It’s like an adult playground with so many diverse hikes and trails. Bring plenty of water and allow for enough time as there is much to do!

Been here twice now. I've done a couple of the hikes and trails, and I've walked around several of the landmarks. Gorgeous place, lots of variety in the rock formations and the plant life. The titular Joshua Trees are everywhere, and there are fields of them as far as the eye can see in some areas. It's a pretty sizeable park, with it taking a good while to drive through it and get to the next scenic spot. Definitely make sure you have a full tank when you come visit since the entrances are rather far away from each other. There's a lot to see, and it can get pretty busy I'm sure during the more temperate months. The first time I went, it was blazing hot. The second time I went, it was cold and windy. 100% recommend visiting here!

A true natural treasure. This place is magical. I’m so glad it’s protected by NPS. We went in mid January. Temps were in the 60s. Light jacket/hoodie weather. The whole park is well maintained and marked. Very easy to navigate. There are trails for every level of experience. The staff at the visitors center were so friendly and knowledgeable. This might be the best maintained national park I have ever been to. A bucket list location for sure.

Great place for rock climbers, geology freaks and historical settlements of folks from the mid 1800's. Not much historical information about the native Indian population but there was some. Early spring time flowering blooms. Great place to visit and revisit!

Such a beautiful place. We got there early-ish, like 10:30 am and the line to get in was 30 minutes. It was late December 2025. We really enjoyed the views and the drive. Better prepare some activities, water, and snacks because there is nothing else there. We recommend stopping for a coffee and look at the second hand shops after going to the park.

Nice state park and hiking trail. The only thing is to improve the road sign before the intersection. It'll be a big help for all the tourists forgetting to download the offline map.
