I recently discovered what might be the best ramen spot in North Goa, Jsan, located in the coastal village of Anjuna. From the moment I walked in, it was clear this place is a love letter to Japanese culture. The setting is absolutely serene, with flowing water features, hand-painted wall art, and an inviting Izakaya-style atmosphere. The space embraces the beauty of imperfection, with kintsugi-style floors, charred wood tables, and mismatched ceramics that all come together to create a warm, homely feel.
The food here is a true reflection of the care and love they put into every dish. I started with the Shoyu Ramen, and it was one of the best ramen bowls I’ve ever had. The soy-based broth had been simmering for hours, and it was deep, rich, and full of umami. The pork belly on top was tender and melt-in-your-mouth, and the handmade noodles gave it that perfect bite. The balance of flavours in the bowl was just right.
I’ve also heard from the chef that their Tonkotsu ramen bowl is slow-cooked for a minimum of 48 hours, which helps the broth achieve the perfect balance of depth and authenticity. That’s definitely on my list for next time!
I also tried the Tori Paitan Ramen, made with a creamy white chicken broth. This one was equally comforting and rich. I added a spoonful of their homemade chilli oil, which brought an extra layer of heat and depth to the dish. Both bowls were hearty and satisfying — perfect for anyone craving authentic Japanese comfort food.
But ramen isn’t the only thing these guys do well. The gyoza was crispy and juicy, and the chicken karaage was honestly some of the best I’ve had outside of Japan. The chicken had the perfect balance of sweet and savoury, thanks to a marinade of sake, soy sauce, and mirin. It’s then coated in cornstarch and double-fried for an incredible crunch.
One of the highlights of my meal was the Honey Butter Shokupan, which I would 100% recommend. The bread itself is rich and buttery, and when topped with Madagascar vanilla bean ice cream, whipped cream, and seasonal fruits, it creates the most perfect dessert combination.
If you’re not into alcohol, their in-house sodas, turned mocktails, are a perfect alternative. The Elderflower & Melon and Peach & Gari were particularly light and refreshing, a great way to cool off from the Goan heat.
Jsangoa is open for dinner only, from 5 PM to 11 PM, and they are closed on Tuesdays. The approximate cost for this meal with tax would be anywhere between ₹4,000 to ₹5,000 for two people, which I think is excellent value for the quality of food and experience you get.
If you’re ever in North Goa and craving authentic Japanese comfort food in a beautiful setting, I highly recommend Jsan.
This spot is a gem and definitely worth a visit. :)
