Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary

It’s about a 6 km round-trip walk from the starting point. You can pay at the gate and bring your own vehicle into the sanctuary; it costs 50 INR for a two-wheeler. However, I would recommend walking through it. It’s scenic, quiet, and beautiful, with tall trees on both sides, green fields, and plenty of photogenic spots.

Good place to spend peaceful time. You can sit here, eelax and enjoy beauty of nature. A true place for nature lover. If you want to spend a night here there are many home stays. But remember one thing mobile network here is very very weak and signals come only in some places. You can do a treak of around 3 km which is very easy normal walking, or you can come by car. There are many shops to eat snacks like Maggie, veg pakoda. And there is adventure park also but prices are high. Overall a very good place to enjoy.

It’s a heaven like on earth. Mystic village is amazing to stay here. Their food is very tasty & affordable and camping site is very peaceful. It provides 360 degree view of near by city’s.

The journey to the top through the dense forest is worth the trip alone. Whether you drive your own 2x4 (easy to get there if not raining) or hire a local guide/cab (since it's a bit off-road and you may feel safer), the scenery is incredible. At the peak, you’ll find fun adventure activities and good food. Be sure to visit the Kali Mata shrine in the middle of the woods, a guide can help you find this spot. A perfect mix of thrill and tranquility.

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary was quite disappointing. The narrow road leading up is in poor condition, and driving there is challenging since personal vehicles are allowed. This often causes traffic jams on the steep and tight roads, making the journey stressful rather than enjoyable. The entry fee of ₹200 with personal vehicle doesn’t feel justified, as there’s very little to see inside. I didn’t spot any animals during the visit. There’s just a small forest rest house from 1925 and a few spots to sit. The only highlight is the lovely hill view, where you can enjoy pakoras and tea at a rooftop viewpoint cafe. Overall, you can easily skip this spot unless you just want a quiet place for mountain views. It doesn’t offer much for the entry fee or the effort to reach there.

I visited Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary, and honestly, it wasn’t what I expected. The 3 km uphill drive/walk was scenic, with a peaceful forest vibe, but I barely saw any wildlife along the way. The entry fee was ₹50 for bikes, which seemed reasonable, but there wasn’t much to explore once inside. If you’re looking for fun activities or major attractions, this might not be the place for you. The area felt completely deserted—I didn’t come across anyone else during the entire stretch, which made it a bit eerie. While the natural setting is nice for a quiet walk, I wouldn’t recommend it for those expecting an exciting experience.

Kalatop wildlife sanctuary located almost 4km from Lakadmandi and almost 12km from city centre !! There was not good route to reach their in rainy season whole road was filled with mud !! And u can reach their by own vehicle , rented taxi or cab !! U can reach there by walk as well but u need to walk almost 1 hour !! Its peaceful place !! No ticket required for entry or neither for parking !! Plenty of cafes are there !! Overall good experience!! And last thing there was not a single animal there !! Its just gemic to catch attention of tourists

Must visit place but road are dangerous to travel when rainy days so prefer sunny and dry days

It is just beautiful place. To reach you have to drive a dangerous road but it is adventures. In June it is a cold and clean place. There is no wild animal. No zoo

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary – A Quick Take Just 6 km from Dalhousie, Kalatop is a peaceful, pine-scented escape perfect for nature walks and light treks. The sanctuary is home to deodar forests, Himalayan black bears, barking deer, and rare birds—though actual wildlife sightings can be rare. Scenic, clean, and quiet, it’s ideal for a half-day getaway. Don’t expect safari thrills—this is more about serenity than spectacle. Entry fee applies; roads can be bumpy but manageable.

Must visit place in your Himachal itinerary. The place is very quiet, serene and full of natural beauty. Own car can get damaged, so it is better to take keeps and vans available on rent with driver, just outside the ticket window. Entry ticket per car is 200/-, if it is own car. Car or van with driver costs around 1,200/-. But definately worth it. When you are returning, ask the driver and he will drop you at a spot from where you can do a 10 minute trek (walk) to absorb the natural beauty around you.

Natures at its best - The 3 kms stretch of kalatop takes you to the jungle stretch where you will be not alone but you will be with trees, nature, snow, peace. I will prefer you go in the daytime because in night this stretch becomes quite scary as their are presence of bear in this area. After 3kms stretch you will reach the kalatop which is famous for its beauty, 360degree views and of course the sunset view is awesome here unless you have the clear skies. It looks very beautiful when snow touches the kalatop as you will see the entire area covered with snow and the mountains facing kalatop to have snow accumulation around the year almost. I visited this place in February 2023 as at that time it was covered with snow all around. If you are a peace lover and want to spend your time with nature not crowd then this place is best for you. Also in kalatop there is a famous Chaa pakora severs on a rooftop dhaba which makes the things more beautiful.

You can take a nice trekking walk in deodar forest 3 km from main road. Cars can go. Nice view points on the way. There a forest guest house at the end . Good snacks available. Some adventure sports option also. Nice valley view.

One of the best places in Dalhousie and comparatively less crowded. It takes a three kilometre trek to reach the kalatop wildlife sanctuary. The whole route is full of scenic views and you can enjoy the beauty of nature in all its glory. Definitely the much visited place.

This is more of a forest area providing some good clicks in the middle of greenery. The animals remain inside the deep forest. You can spend around 20-25 mins here. It's better to visit the place early in the morning to avoid crowds. The place has very little to offer however you can always visit it if you have some time in hand.

A good forest place but nothing inside to do. They charge 1200rs and an Onni ride on a dirt road. But except some food stalls at the end nothing is there. Some adventure sports but rarely used. So not worth spending money and time here

Kalatop Wildlife Sanctuary is situated near Dalhousie. You need to take local union cars to visit there. Small car fair 1200 and 1600 for suv. At the hill top there is a Forest Rest House which was made by British in 1925. Beside that a green lawn surrounded by huge pine forests. Also there are few small resturents run by locals and a small adventure perk. While visiting Dalhousie one can easily skip this place, as the place is not worthy so musc except the road. But in winter when this place is totally covered with snow then the place worth visiting more.

Absolutely loved the place. You can either pay a fee per head at the entrance or give total 250 for your own car going inside. We chose the latter. There are a wide range of adventure sports available at a decent price. Bargaining can be done lol. Also the view is beautiful. There are restaurants available at the sanctuary.

we walked to the top...3 km gentle walk in the thick pine forest. there is nothing on the top...few buildings are food vendors. walk is nice and refreshing...its sad that people go to the top in vehicles instead of enjoying the walk.
