We spent 5 nights hiking and camping in Mount Kenya and we loved it! Sure it's an exhausting experience as it requires huge efforts to fight altitude and the cold daily but this mountain is so beautiful and special! Slept in lake Ellis, Michaelson, Austrian Camp and Shiptons Camp. Our preferred were Michaelson and Shiptons although Mintos Campsite also looked stunning when we passed through it on our last day hike. Austrian Hut which is 4800mt high was our worst night ever since we felt the effects of altitude and night was incredibly windy and freezing cold. We wish we had seen some more wildlife. Only saw rock hyraxes and birds and some dung from zebra, elands and hyenas. The campsites all have pit toilets which is a good thing to try to keep the environment clean and water safer for drinking. Phone and internet network are very rare so plan your visit accordingly.

A very nice volcanoe to hike to! We did it on 2 days, to point Lenana, and it was not too hard. Slept in the Naro Muri hut and woke up at 3 o clock to get the sunrise at the summit. If you go with guides (which is mandatory), make sure they make breakfast, otherwise it will be hard. There is a wee bit of scrambling but no multipitch climbing, where you have to go to the Battian. The first 500hm are trough bog, so take waterproof boots with you!!

The great scenarios within Mt. Kenya National park such as tarns, lakes, the huge heaps of stones (peaks), amazing guards and teammates made this hike the best among the few I have had. The rough terrain which tested on the eagerness to climb up the peak was something else, ooh, don't forget the chilling cold late in the evening and early in the morning and receiving blessings in terms of rain as we trekked the tracks. I am grateful to have experienced a sunrise while at the top of the third highest peak on Mt. Kenya with an attitude of 4985m ASL. I would encourage you to pay a visit and experience it yourself once you're well prepared physically, mentally and even emotionally.

Great experience, I enjoyed battling with the stiff and hard terrains up the mountain. I never made it to the top... it will remain as a challenge for the next time. Lenana peak I'll be there.......

Climbing Mount Kenya is an exhilarating experience that combines physical challenge with breathtaking scenery and a deep connection to nature. Whether you're an experienced mountaineer or a first-time hiker, the journey up Africa's second-highest mountain offers something truly special. The Start: Naro Moru Gate Most climbers begin their trek at the Naro Moru Gate, one of the most popular routes. The initial part of the hike takes you through dense rainforest, where you can spot unique flora and fauna, including colobus monkeys and various bird species. The air is fresh and crisp, and the excitement of the journey ahead begins to build. The Moorlands: Mackinder's Camp As you ascend, the rainforest gives way to moorlands covered in giant lobelias and senecios, plants that look like something out of a prehistoric landscape. The terrain becomes more rugged, and the altitude starts to take its toll, but the views become increasingly stunning. Mackinder's Camp, located in the Teleki Valley, is a common stop for the night. From here, you can see the peaks looming above, a reminder of the challenge still to come. The Alpine Desert: Shipton's Camp Continuing up, you enter the alpine desert, a stark and surreal environment where only the hardiest plants survive. The landscape is rocky and barren, but the views are spectacular. You might encounter other climbers here, sharing stories and tips around a fire at Shipton's Camp, the last major stop before the summit attempt. The nights are cold, and the altitude can cause discomfort, but the anticipation of reaching the peak Summit Day: Lenana Peak The summit attempt usually begins before dawn, with climbers starting in the dark to reach the peak by sunrise. The air is thin, and every step takes effort, but the reward is worth it. As you near Point Lenana, the third-highest peak, the sun begins to rise, casting a golden glow over the surrounding mountains and valleys. Standing at the summit, you feel a profound sense of achievement and awe as you take in the panoramic views stretching as far as Mount Kilimanjaro on a clear day The Descent The descent is quicker but no less beautiful, as you retrace your steps through the different ecological zones. The sense of accomplishment is strong, and there's a camaraderie among the climbers who have shared the experience. By the time you return to the gate, you're tired but exhilarated, with memories of the climb that will last a lifetime.

Mount Kenya point Lenana peak 4,985 m the hike was both exhilarating and difficult. 4 days 3 nights hike we used the Old moses Camp route which was not hard We had porters to help with our luggage bless them 🙏🏾🙏🏾 cause weeeeuh I won't have made it. We reached Old Moses camp at around 2 P.M since we decided to hike in October rainy seasons it was so cold 🥶🥶 not sleeping in tents thank God for that The views from there were beautiful 🤗🤗 Woke up the following day and started our hike to Shipton Camp. Those kilometres were not a joke 🤣🤣🤣 till you see the first sight of the white peaks I fell in love 😍😍😍 At Shipton we froze our behinds off getting there but guys the views there I could believe I was summiting that beautiful mountain 🏔️🏔️🏔️ Day 3 we summited Mt Kenya around 6 in the morning the snow fell hard we didn't stay long before we had to hike to lake Michaelson to Lake Ellis and headed home the following day This was one of the most amazing experiences I have ever experienced 😊😊 and I will definitely do it again this year just not in October 🤣🤣

I think everyone owes themselves an excursion to mount kenya. We used the chogoria entrance. The drive to the base of the mountain is so refreshing and peaceful. You get to enjoy the uninterrupted forest which boasts all kinds of indigenous trees and thicket. We climbed through the mountain, to come out through the nanyuki exit. Great!
