Lake Atitlán

Lake Atitlán is absolutely beautiful. There is truly something special about this place — the energy, the views, the volcanoes surrounding the lake… it feels magical. I especially loved San Marcos. It’s a bit more developed but still keeps that relaxed, hippie vibe. It felt peaceful, creative, and welcoming. I loved it — absolutely stunning. The best way to get around is by boat from town to town across the lake. It’s easy and part of the experience! I visited in February and the weather was perfect — not too hot, not too cold. The evenings were especially comfortable. The water was a little choppy at times, so just be prepared for that. Overall, this is a must-see in Guatemala. Truly unforgettable. 🌊✨

Es impresionantemente la creación de Dios, es bello, su color increíble 😍. Como estar en una pintura. Nos tocó un día hermoso, así que se veía super. Se pueden apreciar los volcanes, se atraviesa en lancha. Hay transporte público para cada pueblo. Contamos con la guía de Leabua y Verónica.

Hemos vivido una experiencia inolvidable recorriento en lancha el lago Atitlán, desde Santiago Atitlán hasta Panajachel. Se ha cumplido uno de nuestro sueños: recorrer el lago que el escritor Aldous Huxley consideraba el más bello del mundo, rodeado de volcanes y de pueblecitos encantadores. Se lo recomendamos a todo el mundo.

Hermosísimo lugar!!! De Santa Cruz y San Marcos son los mejores atardeceres y amaneceres. Para trasladarse entre los pueblos tomarse lanchataxi salen cada 15 minutos aproximansame y sale 25Q por tramo. Tienen parada en los muelles y también en hoteles que tienen muelles privados.

Lake Atitlan is one of the most breathtaking places I’ve ever visited. Surrounded by majestic volcanoes and charming villages, the lake feels peaceful, powerful, and deeply inspiring all at once. The water changes color throughout the day, reflecting the sky and mountains in the most beautiful way. Each town around the lake has its own unique culture, traditions, and warmth, which made exploring even more special. I loved the calm atmosphere, the friendly locals, and the strong connection to nature. Lake Atitlan isn’t just a destination but it’s an experience that stays with you long after you leave. A must day trip while in Guatemala.

This place is magic , very well maintained and a lot of options around . Little boat to reach every single village on the lake with a super convenient price . The view is unreal , you can feel the strength of Mother Earth represented by 3 huge vulcano right there .

Le lac est magnifique (s’il fait beau). La ballade en bateau est indispensable et si vous le pouvez en bateau privé. Attention aux villages à visiter, privilégiez San Juan et prévoyez d’y rester 3 heures minimum. Les autres villages sont bien moins intéressants.

Heaven on earth, a large lakes, surrounded by volcanoes in high mountains. There are many towns filled with indigenous life, culture, and happiness. Come for two days, come for a month, it would fill any expectation from scuba diving, textile marvels, to birdwatching to transformation retreats. It’s got so much to offer.

Estuvimos en Enero 2026. Hermoso hostel sobre el Lago playa propia. Nos tocó una habitación para 4 con baño privado. Agua caliente para bañarnos y muy importante: colchones nuevos !! El desayuno de primera con vista al Lago ; la atención de los chicos en español e Inglés en nuestra experiencia. Check out a las 11:00am pero Podes dejar las Mochilas en un locker. La atención de Nini al llegar fue excelente. Para descansar y no moverse del Lugar o caminar por la costa con el lago de compañía.

Es un lugar mágico para desconectarse por completo de la civilización. Pasé una semana recorriendo los pueblitos alrededor del lago, y mis favoritos fueron San Marcos y San Pedro. Recomiendo especialmente visitar la Reserva Natural para caminar, subir al Cerro de los Mayas y hacer kayak en el lago.

Tappa obbligatoria se si viene in guatemala. Un paio di notti sono sufficienti per visitare i paesini circostanti. Perfetto se hai bisogno di riposare un po' dopo molti giorni di viaggio. Zona sicura. Economico.

A must visit and tske water taxi to the other small towns. So much to see and doin Panajachel without even leaving. Stunning views of the volcanos. Lots of shops to eat at, many vendors for shopping, artisan market, tour guide vendors, grocery stores....too much to see and do

Una maravilla natural. Nos quedamos 3 noches en Panajachel y nos estuvimos moviendo por la zona, visitando varios pueblos en lancha y haciendo excursiones. Todos los lugares tienen algo especial, y las vistas y paisajes en la zona son espectaculares. Recomendable pasar unos días si se visita Guatemala.

El Lago Atitlan es sin duda una de las experiencias más increíbles que he vivido, la verdad es que las fotos no le hacen justicia a la majestuosidad de vista y paisajes que ves. Vayan y experimenten es increíble.

First thing to say is that it will take you about 2 hours from Antigua. Second thing to say is that you'll go through their Sierras (Mountains) and will fall in love with the scenery. Third and most important, when in Atitlan, get yourself a private boat (Lancha) so that you can more easily go between the various towns and don't have to wait or worry about time. We went with this route and in 1 day had the chance to see 4 little pueblos at a very leisurely pace (trust me this is what you'll want to spend your money on). The lake itself is amazing with a feeling of calm and peace. The pueblos dot the shores of the lake and each is known for something different, with different colors, cuisine, and sites. The miradores are the best way to gain the necessary elevation to take in the magnitude of the lake but be ready for a steep climb.

Muy bonito, aunque últimamente el precio de algunas cosas han subido demasiado. Paseo en lancha muy recomendado 👌

Lake Atitlán is undeniably one of the most beautiful places in Guatemala. The scenery alone is worth the trip; a massive, shimmering lake completely surrounded by towering volcanoes. Waking up to those views is something I’ll never forget. I spent two days there, which felt like the perfect amount of time for me. I visited three of the small towns around the lake, and while they were charming, they all had a very similar, shopping-oriented vibe. Many people spend a full week hopping from town to town, but since I’m not big on shopping, it started to feel a bit repetitive. For me, the true highlight wasn’t the markets; it was the nature. The calm water, the dramatic volcano backdrop, and the overall peaceful atmosphere make Lake Atitlán a must-see destination. If you love stunning landscapes and quiet moments in nature, this place delivers. Two days was just right, and the views alone make the trip completely worth it.

美しい湖と火山を眺めながら素朴な町でゆったりと過ごせます。 湖のまわりには個性的なマヤ系先住民の村々が点在しています。

What a gorgeous lake! And the villages dotted along it are super diverse and fun, from a digital nomad central to yoga to party, anything you want! The public boats are very reliable though be prepared to bounce about a lot in rough weather, but overall super easy to travel along the lake.
