Living Sharks Museum

Wonderful little museum, and the owner is super knowledgeable and passionate about sharks. He shared so much interesting information that it made in even better. I would highly recommend a visit. And better yet, it's free!

I drove down after hearing about the Jaws display and it did not disappoint! I had the museum to myself and founder/curator Keith was awesome. We talked Jaws and I got to see a lot of merchandise from the '70s that I couldn't see anywhere else. The rest of the small space is just as packed with info and artifacts and is definitely worth seeing. Keith, you're gonna need a bigger museum. I'll absolutely be back!

We visited the Shark Museum during a stroll thru downtown Westerly last night - their First Night event. What a treat! Jaws (of course), teeth, skeletons, embryos, research gear - everything you can think of is there. We bought our grandson a shark puppet and he promptly nibbled everyone to death. Keith is owner, curator and narrator and is great. He makes it all come alive! Highly recommend.

Such a lovely place to visit. There is no admission and it's a wonderful educational opportunity to learn about the history of sharks! I was lucky enough to be there in a quiet moment and my friends and I got to have a long conversation (almost a private tour essentially) with the museum's curator and founder. It was so great getting to experience his knowledge and enthusiasm and spend some time exploring his incredible collection of artifacts and memorabilia. If you're a Jaws fan in particular, definitely check out the 50th anniversary exhibition, I was delighted to see all of the treasures in there. I'll be be back!!

Meeting Keith Cowley and learning about his studies and his massive shark collection was super inspiring and kept a dear friend and I busy for several hours! The collection touched on every angle of sharks in today's world... from the history of shark hunting, to the widespread fear of shark attacks popularized by JAWS, and into the scientific studies of sharks throughout history and leading to modern methods. We were really fascinated by all the fossils, art, and other memorabilia he had to share. Keith accompanied us, sharing his own personal stories, his huge wealth of knowledge on all the displays he's curated throughout his life. His dedication to educating people on the full story of sharks and humans was a really beautiful surprise. This museum is a must see!

Really great museum and fascinating history. The curator Kieth is very knowledgeable and easy to talk to. I was doing a research paper on sharks and he provided multiple books and scientific papers for me to reference! Really great stuff that everyone should learn about!

This place is great for anyone interested in sharks but an absolute MUST for Jaws fans. The curator is a shark historian, researcher and educator and most importantly shark conservationist. As a Jaws fanatic, I spent most of my time there checking out his extensive and varied collection of memorabilia of the 1975 film, so I need to go back and checkout the other rooms more closely, which featured shark fossils and specimens, a collection of shark egg cases, historical shark technology and much, much more. Thanks Keith for sharing your collection of artifacts and popular culture with us!! Fantastic collection - this is the biggest little gem of a museum you'll ever find. Keith is an extremely knowledgeable and helpful curator - a dedicated conservationist. Living Sharks is a worthwhile destination in itself for anyone interested in not only sharks, but fossil collection and local archeology, history and conservation. If your in Westerly for any reason - be sure to stop in and check out this bonus attraction. It's free - so you can't miss. Likely, you'll be so pleased with the discovery and inspired with the knowledge that you'll want to contribute to the conservation efforts.

It's very small and seemed to be focused on the Jaws movie as it's soon to be the 50 year anniversary. The museum is up two flights of stairs and consists of three small rooms, the main display (Jaws memorabilia) a small library room and a small room dedicated to how people unethically profit from sharks.

What a wonderful hidden gem this museum is and it's free. The Jaws collection is awesome, and the gentleman who runs it is so friendly and knowledgeable. Definitely check this place out.

As an avid shark lover, I was so excited to finally visit this establishment and talk sharks… I was devastated to discover the door locked up tight, and the building appearing dark and empty, and no sign on the door indicating if they’ve shut down or have an event that day…

Although small, there's a lot of cool information and artifacts relating to sharks. This includes fossils, shark jaws, and items relating to the movie JAWS. The guy who runs it is really friendly and smart. He knows his sharks. With luck, it will grow into something larger.

wonderful collection. great place to learn. keith is very knowledgeable about sharks (and other things too) ! so glad this is in Westerly--makes our downtown more interesting.

Pretty sure they’re shut down. Went there on a Saturday during business hours. Place was locked with a 4 rent sign out front and a building that was empty through the glass. Drove an hour to go there would have been nice if I knew they were out of business

Lots of information in a small set up! Owner/operator on hand to answer questions. Would be good to see types of fishing lines used along with the articles showing sharks caught. Located on second floor - didn't notice an elevator.

Very special place. Speciality Jaws Movie collection, very knowledgeable about shark preservation. Free to visit. I recommend leaving s donation to help preserve the sharks!

Wonderful Experience! Learned a lot about sharks that I did not know! Highly recommend stopping in for a fun informative activity!
