Lot's Cave (Church of Saint Lot)

The Lowest Place on Earth houses both a museum and remnants of a monastery containing Lot's cave. The drive up to the cave can be trickey with a car and the walk from the museum to the cave will take some time. The site small but impressive.

Mini Höhle die Eingezäunt ist. Warum ist nicht erklärbar, da die Höhle winzig ist und keine Verlauf- oder Einbruchgefahr besteht. Einziger Weg führt über ddn Eingang vom Museum

Très peu interessant : Peu ou pas d’explications, rien d’intéressant à voir non plus. 10JOD aller/retour en 4x4 ou 25 minutes à pied pour y accéder depuis le musée.

Il sito non è particolarmente ben conservato nonostante la sua importanza per tutte e tre le religioni del libro. L'area archeologica si trova in alto ed è raggiungibile dopo una salita su una strada sterrata non ben battuta all cui fine inizia una scalinata di 300 gradini per arrivare in cima alla collina. Il museo del punto più basso della terra, all'ingresso del sito è invece molto interessante, ha dei bei reperti fra cui i mosaici strappati dal sito archeologico e collocati qui al sicuro.

Lótová jaskyňa je skrytá za múzeom. Trikrát sme hľadali to miesto podľa Google mapy A keďže chýbajú smerové šípky tak majú tam proste chaos. Alebo aspoň vrátnik nám mohol povedať že pokračujte ďalej cez múzeum do strmého kopca aby ste našli jaskyňu. Ak nemáte terénne auto je lepšie Nechať auto zaparkované pri múzeu. Výstup do jaskyne po schodoch bol extrémny pre horúčavy predpokladáme že to bolo kvôli typu kameňu ktorý je ako akumulačná pec. Boli sme tam v júli 2025 asi o jednej alebo druhé poobede A to bolo skutočné peklo. Pre starších ľudí môže byť tento výstup ,životu nebezpečný kvôli vysokým teplotám ktoré sú oveľa vyššie ako sme zažili na iných miestach v Jordánsku.

It is believed that Prophet Lot (a.s) and his daughters hid in this cave before Allāh (swt) sent punishment on his nation. Please bear in mind that his nation was involved in homosexuality. Such a great sin that Allāh (swt) punished them by turning the entire cities upside down and heavy rains along with the mounds of clay, like baked clays. There is also ruins of church built afterwards.

Good hiking/walking shoes required. You can enter the cave if you can scale a small wall. Great views. If you have hiked in Petra, this is a piece of cake. The nearby museum features items found by archeologists inside the cave

For Moslems this place is very important and interesting, although you have to put extra energy to pass about more than 280 stairs.. The museum itself has a cafe..and it is free entrance with Jordan Pass. If you like, you can also pay 8JD for shutle bus.

Muss man nicht sehen. Wir sind 15min hochgelaufen. Oben gab es eine relativ schöne Aussicht. Die Höhle und die Ruinen waren es aber nicht wirklich wert. Archäologieinterssierte dürfte es vielleicht mehr interessieren

Lot's cave is one of the best religious sites located east of the dead Sea. According to the old testament, it's said that lot, his wife and two daughters had to escape the burning of Seldom and Amora and settled in a cave. Please refer to the Holy Bible to read the whole story.

This is an interesting place to visit. You need to have a good car to reach the top of the hill, then you have to climb hundred of stairs. Unfortunately we cannot enter the cave itself. At least you can enjoy a great view on the Red Sea.

Museum was aardig om te zien. Heeft mooie dingen, nadeel erg klein dus je loopt er zo door heen. Wij kozen ervoor om naar boven te lopen. Klim is goed te doen, trappen zijn minder doordat de tredes heel laag en lang zijn. Uitzicht boven is schitterend, maar de grot valt tegen.

Interesting spot to hike up to from the museum. A nice thing to check off on a list of great historical places. So hike up the hill and visit Lot’s cave

Warto podejść na nogach bo samochód i tak nie dowiezie na sama górę- a to całkiem niedaleko ... nic nadzwyczajnego ale warto zobaczyć. Piękne widoki z góry:) na dole muzeum

Ruševine bizantinske bazilike in jama. V tej jami naj bi si izbral zatočišče Lot,ko je zapustil Sodomo... Avto lahko pustite pri muzeju Mrtvega morja,ali se mimo zapeljete po makadamu,do zgornjega parkirišča. Od muzeja do jame je cca 750m vzpona, vredno. Lep razgled. V času mojega obiska (marec 2019) ni bilo nikogar,vendar sem si vseeno uspel ogledati ruševina in samo jamo.

There isn't a huge amount to see of the cave itself. There is the remains of the church outside with an interesting mosaic on the floor. There is also the remains of the cistern, which is impressive given the location halfway up a mountain. It is quite a hike up steep steps to get to it. Just to get to the bottom of the steps you have to walk up from the Lowest Place on Earth museum, or you can drive up to the steps if you have a 4wd. They do offer to drive you up for 10JD from the museum if you want to.

W zasadzie nic tutaj nie ma ale jeslibktos się zatrzymał przy muzeum można podjechać samochodem pod górę. Jechaliśmy rodziną yarisen 1.5), więc samochód 4x4 nie jest potrzebny. Na miejscu ruiny i tyle.

The actual location is inaccessible directly by car. The paved road takes you to a museum from where you pay for a shuttle and go up to the base of a short 10 min stair climb which takes you to the cave. There is no guide there but just some informational boards that talk about the church and the cave there. The museum entrance and the shuttle fee were offered as a bundle to us for 8 dinar each. If its on the way then go do see it if not then its not worth a whole seperate trip.

War interessant und das Museum am Fuß des Berges war auch ganz nett. Das einzige was gestört hat waren die Fliegen.
