One of the Most Terrifying Experiences of My Life I used to love this hospital, my family, friends would all go there. We especially loved their gynae team (Dr. Jackie is amazing). But after giving birth, everything changed. My baby developed sepsis at just 3–4 weeks old, and the pediatric care we received was shocking. A lady pediatrician inserted a cannula so roughly on the inside of his elbow, and for days my baby screamed during every dose. When i queried why he screamed so much i was told it was normal. Even the pediatrician I queried her about putting the canula on a baby on that position and she said it was normal. I queried her because i know a baby doesn't know to not fold their arm. A night-shift nurse came to give him a midnight dose and heard the baby cry she later stated that the cry was too much and eventually asked me to go with her to the nurses room and check him where we discovered the cannula had curved inside his vein and caused swelling of the vein, he still has the scars. Whenever I asked questions, some nurses acted like I was a nuisance. As a first-time mom who had no idea what to do that coldness was heartbreaking. One nurse even used cool water to try bath the baby in the morning when he cried I told her to stop it and that I'd bath him myself and instead of being concerned she said "Why are you like this?" when i asked her to repeat what she said she went on to say "If you want me to bath him with warm water can warm water and bath him" my thought is as maternity nurse or whatever why didn't she think of this first hand? The pediatrician barely examined my baby during our two-week stay. She would ask us how the baby is doing from the door and go. No touching nothing. When asked why shes not examining the baby or atleast even coming close to glance she said the nurses would be told her if something was wrong. At discharge, we asked what caused the infection, she simply said the infection was “suppressed" and now the baby is fine that's all that mattered. 24 hours later, he began vomiting after every feed. When I called her (ped), she immediately blamed me without seeing him. She went on to say maybe there's something your doing wrong at home. I was so furious because how would a baby who was supposedly healed get sick again in 24hrs? And how do you diagnose a baby over the phone using blame? I rushed to another hospital where they ran proper tests (tests that were not recommended to us at Medcross) and readmitted him, he has been perfectly fine ever since note that its been months and months since hes been okay. Great antenatal care, but pediatric services? I personally would not recommend them. !!
