Mektoub Beach Retreat

We stayed here for two nights, and were blown away by the beauty of the place and the serenity, as well as the architecture, facilities and exceptionally nice staff. Note that alcohol is not allowed here. The breakfast included is amazing. The only qualm I had was that finding the place was a bit difficult. We had to park our car up the hill and walk down for about ten minutes to reach the place. But overall, a peaceful Paradise of a resort

The place is stunning. As an architect I loved the rooms are it's design style. Laterite bricks are always a hit! The hosts are super warm and helpful. The breakfast is just ok. Could improve. Lunch was overpriced for the quantity served. But I'll let all that go for the truly blissful ambience. One can listen to the waves and wake up. It's located slightly away from the main road making it difficult to access by road(no road to the resort). We had a tough time finding the place at night without phone network and no proper signage to guide us.

A decent place for a decent price. Don't expect a high level service and things. The rooms are spacious for 2 and is well maintained. Food was ok. A definite try here is appam and vegetables stew. It was tasty to the core. The beach is just few minutes walk from here and it's clean and tidy. It was worth staying for 2 nights.

Quaint place with good facilities. Kinda hard to figure out the location. It's very near blue water resort so you could call the front desk and ask for help. The parking is at blue water and you have to walk a bit to get to Mektoub. Good breakfast with fresh fruit and toast and an Indian breakfast dish. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The property is very quiet and peaceful and away from the crowd at Varkala.

Ein zauberhafter, ruhiger Ort, mitten in der Natur, zwischen Meer und Reisfelder, mitten in den Palmen. Etwas ausserhalb gelegen, in guter Gehdistanz zum lebhaften Varkala Beach, einfach dem Weg foglen, der dem Strand entlang geht. Mektoub wird mit viel Sorgfalt, Liebe und Achtsamkeit betrieben: natürliche, lokale Materialien, stilvoll, ökologisch, simpel, einfach gehalten. Es gibt alles was man braucht, kein unnötiger Luxus. Der Ort lädt ein, runterzufahren, zu meditieren, Yoga zu machen, mit Rafiq über Gott & die Welt und verschiedene Ansichten zu philosophieren. Es gefiel uns so gut, das wird länger geblieben sind als geplant. Bestes Frühstück, was wir in Kerala gegessen haben.

I really loved staying here and extended my stay for two more nights. The rooms are located beautifully between the rice fields and the sea and are in a nice and very quite area. Rafiq, his sun and all the other people there were very kind and helpful! Thank you for the beautiful time, I will definately come back soon!

Worth place for a relaxing holiday. You need nothing else to enjoy peace and nature. The more convenient area if you want to be enough far away from the noise and touristic cliff. Nearby the secluded beach and good located to enjoy local culture, and silence. They provide as well delicius food, then you need only relax and let you go.

Achtung Betrüger!!! Das gebuchte Apartment war überbucht, angeblich nur für 1 Nacht und wir wurden in einem ca. 8m² Zimmer untergebracht, kein Problem. Am nächsten Tag sollte der Wechsel der Unterkunft stattfinden, jetzt war angeblich der Gast des Apartments am Strand, nach seiner Rückkehr wäre das Zimmer bezugsfertig. Nun, es war klar, dass das Apartment doppelt vergeben war und man log uns dreist an und nach dieser Feststellung meinerseits wandte sich der Inhaber samt "Gehilfen" aus Weißrussland grinsend ohne Kommentar ab. Letztendlich wurde seitens mektoub bei booking angegeben, wir wären nicht angereist und es wurde eine Stornogebühr in Rechnung gestellt. Ich habe während meiner 7 Aufenthalte in Indien so etwas noch nicht erlebt. Finger weg, es existieren eine Menge hervorragender Alternativen in Varkala!

Ein magischer und wunderbarer Ort mit einem ausgezeichneten Gastgeber. Wir waren schon einige male in Varkala und das Mektoub ist für uns stets die beste Wahl. Das Mektoub ist am Strand gelegen. Ein optimaler Ort der Ruhe um zu geniessen unweit einer grossen Auswahl an Restaurants. Wir können das Mektoub nur wämstens empfehlen. Danke für die grossartige Gastfreundschaft.

Well worth the money you pay for... Pristine rooms and simply brilliant services. The cleaning staff were quite literally ninjas.... Beautiful views and alot of space. Secluded beach right next door, swimmable!

Okay place. Parking 150m away from the actual resort. Helpful staff. I'd not recommend food from the place. Little selection and hefty price for the food.

I am givig this a 5 star rating because of the location, architecture and the staff. Great place to chill, relax and unwind. Only negative, there's no direct road access.

Very poor accommodation.insects etc getting room under the door. No hot water. No a/c. .a bit of a joke really. Better accommodation near by and better price and food

Relaxing mood on If you want to relax this is the place for it Traditional resort ,dont come here for luxury Peace full climate,sound of the sea,the view from balcony , food is also great bit coslier.

Great place at a quiet part of the beach, a short walk from the touristy shops and restaurants. Friendly and good service.

Struttura fatiscente e non sicura siamo andati via subito, purtroppo arrivando di sera tardi abbiamo dovuto dormire una notte.
