Super cool and cute place. Its very affordable and all places take card and cash. The service was impeccable and super friendly. Many of the servers are welcoming and will allow you to try stuff before buying. I love that most places offer tasting plates that have all sort of tapas so you can try them all. Definitely a must stop place, the Sangria here is by far the best I’ve had.

Mercado de San Miguel is what happens when Spanish food, history, & tourist temptation all decide to move in together under one very beautiful roof. Located just west of Plaza Mayor, this upscale indoor market is packed with jamón, tapas, seafood, oysters, cheeses, wine, beer, pastries, & ice cream, basically a guided tour of Spain, except your wallet gets an emotional workout along the way. The building itself is gorgeous, & the food displays are the kind that make self-control feel like a neglected life skill. You can graze your way through gourmet tapas, paella, smoked salmon, croissants, sweets, & more, all in one level of delicious chaos. It’s lively, iconic, & very much in the “tourist magnet” category, which means some prices come with a little extra confidence. That said, as with any major tourist hotspot, keep one eye on the food & the other on your belongings. There are often the usual outside hustlers trying to deploy the ancient & thrilling friendship-bracelet scam, but inside the market there is security & staff who seem very aware that nonsense is not on the menu. Still, a healthy level of wallet paranoia is probably wise. We visited on a Sunday afternoon, & the place was absolutely heaving. Moving around could be a bit of a sport, finding a seat required timing, luck, & possibly a minor miracle, & the cleaners were clearly working extra hard to keep up with the tidal wave of visitors. If you’re after a quiet, leisurely meal in peace, this is not that kind of place, this is more “food safari in a glamorous stampede.” The market isn’t huge, so it pays to do a full lap first before committing your appetite & your euros. In the end, it’s a brilliant place to sample a wide range of Spanish food in one historic, bustling, & slightly wallet-threatening setting. A must-visit in Madrid, just arrive hungry, patient, & mildly suspicious of anyone offering you bracelets.

Very popular with tourists! Food is good but can be a little pricey! But the fun of eating at different stalls as you wandering around is the central idea. If you are looking for a nice seat down meal then this place would be challenging as seats are hard to come by... instead just dive right in at the stalls... eat, drink, walk, talk, and have fun with your friends!

What an awesome market!! in every big city there is a market that sells delicacies local to the area. This particular market is one of my most favorite ones in the world. The staff working at the different booths are very kind and while it’s not inexpensive, you can sample a lot of local delicacies for a relatively good price.

Mercado de San Miguel is a foodie paradise in the heart of Madrid! 🥘🍷✨ We arrived early, which meant not all the stalls were open yet, but honestly, it was nice to wander around before the crowds took over. 😌 The atmosphere is vibrant, the food displays are dangerously tempting 🤤, and even with a few shutters still down, there was plenty to admire (and snack on!). It’s like a museum where you’re encouraged to eat the exhibits. 🍤🧀🍰 Pro tip: come a little later if you want the full experience, but arriving early does give you a chance to enjoy the market without elbowing your way to the tapas. 😂 Definitely worth a visit for food lovers and curious travelers alike! 🇪🇸❤️

This is one of the Madrid’s most famous markets with beautiful iron and glass structure and design that offers a lively, gourmet atmosphere. It was first opened in 1916 and then transformed into a modern food hall in 2009, while keeping the historic structure intact. Inside, you’ll find more than 20–30 stalls offering tapas, seafood, pastries, wine, and regional specialties from across Spain. It’s a nice place to wander, snack, and try small bites from different vendors, all in one bright and bustling space.

Very enjoyable market and a great place to try Spanish food. I had two tapas and a chicken empanada and everything tasted fresh and good. The market was lively and had many food options to choose from. Some vendors provide seating for their customers, while others are more grab-and-go, but overall it was a pleasant experience and a nice way to taste local food in Madrid.

Visited Mercado de San Miguel and had an absolutely fantastic experience. The market is one of the most vibrant and iconic culinary destinations in Madrid, offering an incredible mix of food, culture, atmosphere, and local flavors all in one place. One of the highlights is the extraordinary variety of food and drink options available. From traditional Spanish tapas, seafood, cheeses, jamón ibérico, and paella to desserts, wines, and gourmet specialties, the market offers something for every taste. The quality and presentation of the food were excellent, and every stall felt inviting and carefully curated. I especially appreciated the lively and energetic atmosphere inside the market. The combination of locals, travelers, chefs, and food enthusiasts creates a dynamic and authentic experience that truly reflects the social and culinary culture of Madrid. Despite being popular and busy, the market remains enjoyable and well organized. The architecture of the building itself is also beautiful, with its historic iron-and-glass structure adding elegance and charm to the overall environment. Walking through the market feels both cultural and gastronomic at the same time. The staff across the different stalls were friendly, professional, and welcoming, making it easy to explore and try different specialties comfortably. Overall, a memorable and highly recommended experience for anyone visiting Madrid. Mercado de San Miguel perfectly combines food, culture, history, and atmosphere, making it one of the city’s must-visit destinations.

Mercado de San Miguel was one of the most vibrant food experiences in Madrid. The market had an incredible variety of options including gambas al ajillo, empanadas, tacos, calamares, bocadillo de calamares, tuna dishes, finger food with Southeast Asian influences, Miguel meatballs, dim sum and baos with a Spanish twist, along with oysters, cod, paella, pizza, smoked meats, cheeses, croissants, baked goods, churros, fresh juices, vermouth bars, and so much more. Drinks ranged from Aperol Spritz to wines and beers, with even places like Primutal catering heavily to meat lovers. Some prices I remember were tapas around €2, beer around €5, tacos around €5, white wine around €5, Aperol Spritz around €8.50, bocadillo de calamares around €13, and gambas al ajillo around €21. It is definitely on the pricier side and the space gets extremely cramped and crowded, but as a tourist experience it was genuinely worth it and I honestly enjoyed it a lot.

If you enjoy a variation of food and a lively atmosphere, I would recommend you to stop by this place. Here you can buy tapas, pintxos, drinks, fruits, ham etc. You can buy a small thing from one place, buy a drink from another place and just find a place to hang out to enjoy the food. What to eat depends on what you are into. I would recommend tasting the vermouth, enjoy a Gilda pintxos, get some fresh cut ham, maybe some fried seafood etc. It can be very packed so it can be a bit overwhelming. But keep calm, balance your food products and drinks and find a place to enjoy it!

I stopped by Mercado de San Miguel during my trip to Madrid and had a really good experience. The market is beautiful inside and has a lively buzz to it all day. There are so many food options, from tapas to sweets, and everything looked fresh and tempting. It is definitely on the pricier side, but the quality and atmosphere make up for it. Great place for a quick bite and a drink.

It's a tourist trap and you pay over the odds for food but well worth a visit if in Madrid. The food is good but pricey. A nice experience but then move to a more local bar for value for money tapas. Although the olives are hard to beat.

04/04 The Mercado de San Miguel is one of the most famous gourmet food markets in Madrid, located just a short walk from the Plaza Mayor. Housed in a beautifully preserved early 20th-century iron and glass structure, the market blends historic architecture with a modern tapas and culinary experience. Inside, visitors will find a wide variety of stalls offering traditional Spanish delicacies such as jamón ibérico, fresh oysters, seafood tapas, cheeses, olives, and pastries, along with wines, vermouth, and cava. Unlike a traditional local grocery market, it is designed primarily for tasting and social dining, making it a popular stop for both tourists and locals seeking high-quality small plates in a lively atmosphere. The market is usually bustling, especially in the evenings, with people moving between stalls and standing at counters to enjoy food and drinks. Its compact layout encourages sampling multiple dishes in one visit, creating a fast-paced but enjoyable culinary experience. Today, Mercado de San Miguel is considered one of Madrid’s top gastronomic attractions, offering a curated introduction to Spanish cuisine in a historic and vibrant setting.

Amazing place for street food! I had some delicious fresh seafood snacks and a cold beer. It gets very crowded and finding a spot can be difficult, but it's still the perfect place to grab a quick bite and enjoy the lively atmosphere. Highly recommended! Weekends, it’s way crowded than weekdays!!
