Lives up to all the hype and more. I heard endless recommendations to visit the Milwaukee Art Museum during my weekend trip to the city. Those recommendations did not disappoint when I visited somewhat spontaneously on a Sunday in February. I had no trouble buying my ticket on arrival and didn’t feel the building was too crowded to enjoy the experience. The building architecture alone is enough reason to visit this museum. Outside and in, you can enjoy stunning views with remarkable craftsmanship. The artwork and exhibits throughout the museum are quite captivating. There’s also a wide enough variety of styles that each visitor is bound to find something that inspires awe or speaks to them during their visit. The staff are friendly and helpful and the gift shop has a fun selection of gifts and souvenirs. I bring stamps to mail postcards to friends and family each time I visit a new city and particularly enjoyed their postcard selection. Museum members also enjoy special discounts in the gift shop. Finally, if you’re a photo or selfie enthusiast, the bright windows and open space of the lobby and a variety of locations on the outside of the museum provide great places to snap a picture to remember your visit. The only thing I’d go back and change would be to have allowed closer to four hours to take my time exploring all of the exhibits (and that’s considering that the lower level exhibits were closed the day I visited).

Today we spent six hours inside the Milwaukee Art Museum... and it still didn’t feel like enough. We went with two friends, and what made the day unforgettable wasn’t only the art itself, but the conversations it sparked. Hours of talking about life, perspective, history, and creativity, all framed by rooms filled with talent that spans centuries. There’s something powerful about being surrounded by beauty that slows you down and makes you think differently. The collection is extraordinary, from bold modern works to timeless pieces that quietly hold you in place, but it’s the experience that stays with you. You don’t just walk through the museum; you move through ideas. And then there’s the building itself. Set against Lake Michigan, the Milwaukee Art Museum is breathtaking before you even step inside. Designed by Santiago Calatrava, it feels less like a structure and more like something alive, a white sailboat, a bird in motion, a sculpture shaped by wind and water. The iconic Burke Brise Soleil “wings” open and close over the glass atrium, like a slow mechanical breath. It’s both engineering and poetry at the same time. Inside, light pours through soaring glass spaces, shifting throughout the day, changing the mood of every room. Outside, the lake stretches endlessly beside it, as if the building was designed to speak to the horizon. It’s rare to find a place where architecture, art, and human conversation all feel equally alive. Today was one of those days. My favourite surprise? The Mark Rothko impression piece… because apparently even silence can have an attitude.

Everything is so breathtaking architectural of this building. Calatrava did an amazing work. From the overall structural system to details, I’m still taking a moment to digest and admire everything. I’d come back just for its architecture again. From an architectural nerd (if not obvious already)

Attended the Art in Bloom event, and it was delightful! A little crowded at times around the floral installations, but it was fine. I've wanted to go to this event for a few years, and it did not disappoint. There is a marketplace, delicious handheld food for purchase, and live music, as well. Definitely recommend! Visitors also get to vote on their favorite arrangement, and the results are posted each day.

This museum is beautifully put together, offering a nice mix of classic art and modern works 🎨✨. The layout feels open and peaceful, with plenty of space to enjoy each piece without feeling rushed or overwhelmed. Everything is arranged in a way that lets the art truly stand out on its own. The collection has both strong visual appeal and a sense of history, which makes the visit even more interesting 🖼️📖. You can really feel the thought that went into selecting and presenting each work. It’s a great place to visit if you appreciate art, thoughtful design, and a calm, культурний atmosphere 🏛️😊. Perfect for spending a relaxing and inspiring few hours.

가고싶었는데 휴관 일정 확인을 안하고 가서ㅜㅜ 밖에서 바라만 봤던 … 그런데 주변이 너무 푸르르고 평화롭고 예뻤다. 뮤지엄 바로 뒤, 나무 그늘아래 의자에서 호수를 바라보는 그 순간이 기억에 남는다. 정작 뮤지엄 내부는 못들어갔지만 아주 만족스러웠고 여유있게 방문해서 쉬었다 가기를 추천!

Architecture is fantastic and wonderful location right on the lake. I particularly appreciated the Haitian collection, the American furniture collection and the fact they didn't whitewash American history - when it was appropriate, slavery and the abolition movement was were incorporated and accurately featured.

I spent an afternoon at the Milwaukee Art Museum today and I was blown away What an incredible building with beautiful and interesting exhibits! And the gift shop is amazing. I loved my experience so much that I bought a membership for the year. Can't wait to go back!

My boyfriend and I went to the art museum today to take pictures with his new camera. There were only a few spots we took pictures and were really respectful of those around us but we were followed on the lower level of the museum the whole time. We couldn’t go in a new section without a worker watching us. We were in no way doing anything that caused any disturbance to anyone or anything there…that kinda ruined the experience for us. Other than that the art is gorgeous and I have always loved art since I was a kid.

Very nice but small museum right on the lakefront. Their modern section has some great thought provoking pieces and main exhibits are plentiful. Good cafe and generally good day at the museum.

This museum is definitely worth visiting. The architecture is beautiful both inside and out, and the views alone make the trip worthwhile. There’s a great variety of artwork and exhibits, so there’s something for everyone to enjoy. The staff were friendly, and the gift shop had some nice souvenirs and unique items. The bright, open spaces also make it a great place for photos. I spent a few hours here and still felt like there was more to see. If you enjoy art, architecture, or just exploring interesting places, I’d highly recommend stopping by.

I was genuinely surprised. I went there because I had free tickets from a friend and I was not expecting anything… and it was great! Different styles from a wide range of artists and every single piece is carefully chosen. I would advice it to someone who is visiting MKE

I went there evening could not get a chance to visit museum during the memorial weekend.but enjoyed a nice river walk, veteran park visit..took some photos of city.it was awesome

Went with my little kids right at opening and was a fantastic time. Tough to go from old wing to lockers and cage at the other end. Great art and good value. Friendly staff.

The exterior is a work of art as well as the interior of the building. With four floors of paintings and structures that are just breathtaking and that view of Lake Michigan, its truly a sight to see! When coming to Milwaukee for leisure or even business, be sure to check out our art museum. You're in for one heck of a treat!

We attended Art in Bloom at the Milwaukee Art Museum and it was spectacular! There were beautiful floral arrangements throughout the museum to accompany works of art.

Wonderful museum with a fantastic collection and rotating special exhibits. Absolutely stunning building. Big enough to cover lots of artistic territory, but spacious and curated amazingly well so that you don't feel overwhelmed. Cafe on site. We spent about 4 hours there and saw about 75% of the exhibits. Strongly recommend.

THis is an old review but when we went in 2017 it was amazing. I am not an art lover, but woodworker by hobby. Amazing pieces from centuries past. Sam Maloof, James Krenov, and George Nakashima would appreciate some of the pieces shown.

Milwaukee has to the most amazing Art Museum! From the exhibits to the classes and the cafe' that's a little on the pricey side for families, the experience was great!

Gorgeous and a variety of styles of art pieces. Beautiful museum and a misty visit of you are in the area!
