I visited Neelam Restaurant during my trip to Udaipur, and unfortunately, it turned out to be the worst dining experience of the entire trip.
We were already tired after a long day of visit and just wanted a simple, peaceful lunch. The restaurant is located in a narrow lane and you have to climb a few stairs to reach it, which was manageable, but things went downhill after we sat down.
There was only one person managing everything, from taking orders to serving food and handling payments. We initially ordered one thali and requested three rotis, thinking we would share since we were not very hungry. However, he refused in a rather rude manner, saying that sharing a thali is not allowed as per their “rules.” We felt it was unnecessary, but had no choice except to order two thalis.
The wait time was extremely long. It took more than 40 minutes for just two basic thalis to be served. By then, our patience was already tested.
What made the experience even more uncomfortable was that after serving the food, he sat just a few seats away and kept watching us constantly, as if to ensure we did not share the food. It felt very awkward and intrusive.
He also kept asking us personal questions such as where we were staying and which city we were from, even though we were clearly not interested in engaging in conversation.
The food itself was average at best and definitely not worth the price or the overall experience.
Overall, a very disappointing visit. I would not recommend this place to anyone, especially tourists. There are many better restaurants nearby that offer much better service and a more welcoming atmosphere.
