Nizwa Old Town

One of the oldest and most iconic cities in Oman which attracts locals and tourist alike. Nizwa is a place that never gets old and no matter how many times you visit this place, it's seems to feel like the 1st time all over again.

Nizwa is one of the most exciting cities in Oman. I spent two nights here and happened to arrive during the National Day, so the city was quite busy. The souq, the fort, the Al-Aqur Wall, and of coursen the old town itself are the highlights you simply can’t miss. The city has a great mix of interesting cafés and restaurants, which add a lot of life to the area. In the old town you’ll see a contrast of abandoned, crumbling houses and beautifully restored buildings, giving the area a very mixed but authentic feel. In the evening, the old town is beautifully illuminated, making it especially atmospheric.

La majorité de la vieille ville a été rénovée. Vraiment une belle ville où il est bon se promener.

Am Freitagabend besuchten wir die Altstadt von Nizwa. Bei Tageslicht betrachtet sieht es es echt schlimm aus. Zwischen gut restaurierten Gebäuden gutes einige schlecht abgedeckte Baustellen, was nicht so schlimm ist. Aber dazwischen liegen häufig große Menge Müll herum. Die historischen verfallenen Gebäude gehören einfach hier her. Die Stadt war bei unserem Besuch auch sehr gut von Lokals besucht. Der Ort hat schon einen mittelalterlichen Charme, aber es gibt noch eine Menge zu tun.

Kaleyi ziyaret edince muhakkak gezin. Muhteşem.

Loved the historic old town. We reached Friday night and it being the weekend the old town was buzzing with locals and the whole place was alive. Loved the walk, cafes, old streets with building ruins giving the earthy feel. Highly recommend visiting the place Friday morning to experience live stock market and buzzing evening. Take a walk across the high wall which connects various cafes and restaurants also.

Quite dissappointing. Plenty of ruined houses. There is moreover rubbish and trash around some of the ruined houses... Why do people not clean up after themselves? Is that so difficult? Historical cities similar to Nizwa in Morocco are actually often cleaner even though Morocco is not as rich and well off as is Oman.

Currently under restoration. It will be a beautiful tourist destination in the future.

Schöne und interessante Altstadt

Eine absolute Sehenswürdigkeit das man gesehen haben muss. Einfach wow und eine absolute Empfehlung und ein Muss.

Bella cittadina, il suq e il forte stupendi

Great atmosphere, especially in the late afternoon after 4 PM. Note that everything closes from about 2 to 4 because of graders during the weekdays at least. A lot of nice coffee, shops and small businesses. Much better than Al Hamra.

Bella città in cui passare un paio di giorni, purtroppo sta rapidamente perdendo la sua identità a favore di un turismo globalizzato. Il suq ad esempio è bello ma molto molto turistico, in compenso la sera del 31 non c’era in giro anima viva ed è impossibile trovare anche solo una birra

Nice place to visit in Oman, especially with kids.
