I was very grateful when I found this restaurant in Thamel. I had some tofu as appetizers , miso soup and the Oyako Don (chicken and egg rice). The food also came with a pot of Japanese green tea. The price and taste were excellent, and the waitress there was very friendly and polite. If you would like a temporary escape from spicy or heavily fried foods, I would definitely recommend this restaurant.

I visited the place with my wife to try some Japanese Food for Lunch. The ambience of the place will remind you of Japanese culture with traditional Japanese style seating cabins with a separate partition. As we are vegetarians, we had limited options to try but the server suggested us the best dishes and they tasted great. I would recommend the place to someone looking for good Japanese food.

おふくろの味【ネパールで日本のカレーを食べてみた】2025カレー144店166食目2017以来カレーの記録4352食目　2025.10.16 ネパール旅行5日目 ■カレ ライス Rs.780 (約800円) 世界各地の都市の御多分に洩れず、カトマンズのタメル地区にも日本料理店は何店があります。昔、サンパウロで食べたカツカレーがおいしかったのを思い出して、そんな体験もしてみたくなりました。 店名がOFUKURONOAJI おふくろの味 なんて、いかにも日本が恋しい現地駐在員でもターゲットにするかのような表現です。 お店に入ってみると店員さんは現地ネパール人のみですが、みんな笑顔がかわいらしいです。この嬉しそうな笑顔ぶりは、日本人が来たからである可能性があります。こんばんわとかどうぞとか、一言の日本語を使えるチャンスだからかもしれません。 訪れたのは20時頃ですが、店内には西洋人のカップルが1組いるだけで他に客はなし。そりゃ私がくれば店員さんが嬉しくなるのもわかる気がします。 店内内装もインテリアもいかにも一般的な日本食屋さん風情です。 黙っていても無料でお茶の入った急須を出してくれるのも日本らしくていいですね。 実はもう一食食べてきたので、カレーライスをハーフサイズでお願いしますと言いました。 このカレーライスが出てくるまでがおよそ30分かかりました。注文があってから、一から具を炒めて似て、バーモントカレー仕様のルーを使い仕上げたのでしょう、と推察します。 出てきたカレーがいい感じです。具にほとんど隙間を感じないくらいに具沢山なカレーライスです。ネパールゆえのサービス精神を感じ取りました。 何しろ直前にネパール料理屋にいたので、同じノリであれば、日本料理店でもご飯お代わりを勧めてくるのではないかと思いましたけど、流石にそれはありませんでした。 たまには、ごく普通のカレーライスを普通に楽しめるのも、懐かしい気分にもなっていいものです。 楽しみました。 めでたしめでたし #おふくろの味 #OFUKURONOAJI #タメル #カトマンズ #ネパール #カレーライス #ネパール旅行 #ゴーグル仮面

貴重な寿司を食べることができた。ネパールの酒は強すぎて全部飲めなかったが、寿司にあいました。

The restaurant seems to be run by Nepalese people, but both the atmosphere and the dishes give off a pleasantly Japanese feel and flavor.

日本の家庭料理がコンセプトのようです。 唐揚、オムライスをいただきました。ネパールの酒もいただきました。かなり強いアルコール度数でしたが、風味はウォッカに似ており、翌日には抜けてました。

We ordered for soup and it was great but the card machine was not working on that day which made our day tough we didn’t have enough currency in hand.

I wasn't disappointed. The taste is delicious and not boring. I've eaten it twice already. 👌😍

Best Japanese i've eaten in Thamel. Pretty cheap, they pamper you with agadashi and japanese tea, and you get miso soup with main courses. Very good and sizable food as well. Don't miss out!

日本食の味！日本食をネパール風にアレンジしたものではなく、日本の料理の味そのままで、お米ももちろんうるち米です。料理も味噌汁も美味しく頂きました。 1親子丼とほうれん草の胡麻和え 2麻婆豆腐丼と酢の物 丼もの揚げ出し豆腐の小鉢が付いていました。

Y a énormément de choix. Les plats sont très bons. On a partagé plein de petits plats pour goûter à plein de choses différentes. C'est au premier étage de l'immeuble. On est venu le soir et c'était calme on a bien apprécié. Les serveuses sont toute mimi 👍

This place is seriously underrated. It really makes me want to spend my money without hesitation, I LOVE it here!😍 Food and Ambience: This place is at the much 'less busy' part of Thamel. The place isnt much big but it's equally comfortable and cute🥰. The restaurant is perfect for someone finding a calm, and relaxing place to go to. The miss, Sushma who served us made the visit drastically better! Great recommendations regarding the food, and filled the environment with her jolly personality, a major plus I'd say for sure💯! You're even offered a small and cute complimentary tofu dish as well🥰. The place has Japanese calligraphy as well which certainly piqued my interest😁. To talk about the food, we ordered a bunch of items and I can say, the quality and tastes of each dishes are very consistent, making you want to order more😁. There's just perfect amount of seasonings, making you no need to constantly add soy sauces in the dishes. Personally, I recommend the Prawn Tempura, it's EXCELLENT 👌. The batter is soft and airy, making them really fluffy and enjoyable, a definite pick!👍 There's enough seats for as many people as even 10 people, if you are a big group of people. Hygiene-wise, the handwash area and the toilets are clean and up to standards as well😄. To conclude, if you guys want a top-notch Japanese restaurant that takes food seriously, with lovely hospitality, this is the place you NEED TO GO! Due to these reasons, I'm definitely giving it a perfect 5/5⭐, fully deserved!

If you're looking for a good stop with some amazing Japanese food, this is the place ro be. Firstly must say while the ambience is a bit old, its quite cozy. The menu here is quite varied including a numbernof dishes from Japan. Loved the food and service here and would say quite satisfying for the prrice paid. Also, love the service appetizers and tea that you get as soon as you order your food.

If you need a break from noisy street of Thamel, this is the place to go. Love this cozy & quiet place. Delicious food, consistent taste. Welcome Barley tea is superb. Katsu Don here is the best comparing to other Japanese restaurants in Thamel. Bento set is amazing, miso soup is just nice. Came here 4-5 times during my stay, and would love to come back again!

周辺に日本食レストランはいくつかあると思いますが、ここが一番安いと思います！ すき焼きセットを頼みましたが美味しかったです！ クレジットカードも使用できました！

One of the best Japanese restaurants in Thamel. The dishes have quite close to authentic Japanese taste and are quite affordable as well. The atmosphere is very cozy, spacious and has a lot of japanese ambience too. There are separate and private rooms too.

ここの上階のAirbnbのオーナーがとても良い人で、カトマンズ滞在中の2週間はずっとそこに泊まっていた為、よく通っていました。カトマンズには他にも沢山の日本食屋がありますが、ここが一番作り方が丁寧で定食には小鉢も沢山ついており、値段も安めだったように思います。店員さんも皆優しくて良い人たちでした。

お手頃価格で本格的な日本食が食べられます。 お料理だけではなくて内装も日本を感じさせてくれます。納豆ごはん美味しかったです！
