Now it’s time to tell you about my experience of Institute of Endocrinology and Metabolism centre. I was supposed to see Dr. Zohre Maghsoomi who turned out to be a medical school professor working closely with residents. I had an appointment from few days in advance. On the website you can choose the time and day, however, the schedules are clinicians’ weekly timetable. That’s good if you need a quick appointment and don’t want to wait months before seeing a doctor. the day before my appointment was snowy, so, the traffic madness after a semi-closed day in Tehran made me to call the secretary 3 times to tell her how far I was and when I could reach there. The secretary was a nice woman. So far so good! It sounds amazing, but, wait for the show to get started. Before having the chance to see Dr. Maghsoomi, in two separate occasions two of residents approached me and asked me about my history, and they checked the blood test results. When I entered the room, a resident was sitting at the desk trying to type the patient’s history (me), and two other residents on the left side of the room. Dr. Maghsoomi in the middle of the room (Almost); To be honest I be ame overwhelmed by being surrounded by 4 people. So I said: How crowded this room is!! Dr. Maghsoomi with no smile, no greeting, no compassion for the patient was sitting, her face was sign of a struct person! The residents showed me chair and told me to sit. Dr. Maghsoomi who I was supposed to see her, didn’t bother to look at me. Her behavior was like I was there just as a sample case to be used to residents’ training. She started asking the residents about my history and current complaints which had made me to go there. They had a challenging discussion all 4 of them together, the typical academic environment. But my bad experience is due several aspects: 1. Once one of the residents was asking me to say again my symptoms and the medication I take at the time- in response, he told me about side effects of two id medications; it was important to me be was elaborating those facts. However, Dr. Maghsoomi cut him and didn’t let him to tell me the rest. He harshly commanded to stop those those precious details. And told the resident that he didn’t need to explain so much, and just could tell me that my symptoms are not because of thyroid! I was like “why”, “why” I as a patient don’t have the right to know more! Why I must be provided with this limited “awareness”, as “go٫ your symptoms are not relevant to our expertise”!!!! 2. I skip another detailed discussion between one of those residents and Dr. Maghsoomi about my OCD٫ to stop taking medications, not making the patient aware about further things… 3. I said several times my main concerns which I had come there. Dr. Maghsoomi in response several times approached the residents and told them: “ this case is done”, are there more patients? 4. I finally stood up and said that I had some questions about my test results. I showed them the papers and said it was mentioned I was in moderate D3 deficiency! The resident replied: “ that’s not problematic, we Iranians all have D3 deficiency.” I was thinking if I plus other 80million people have a health issue in common, it doesn’t make it to be OK. It just means that I and other 80 million people have a health issue in common which is required to take an action about. I asked about two more things he answered almost the same, one was “it is ok, while, it was lower than the standard range”. And regarding the next one “ it’s low but you don’t need to do anything about “. In General: The most weird experience of seeing a doctor! Dr. Maghsoomi was the least pleasant and helpful clinician I could imagine. I Don’t recommend this place and this clinician.
