Eating a meal here felt like stepping back in time. One could feel the years gone by in the vibe of the place. Easily one of the best veg meals I’ve had in this city. Hits the spot.

The only thing that stands out in this resturant is the parking. Which is a blessing for anyone driving around, hunting for restaurants. But once we stepped in, we settled in on a corner table. Waited for a good 15 minutes, with waiters and attendants passing us by, only to be told rather rudely by one of them that the table we were on will not be attended by anyone. Which is hillarious. Does the resturant follow a policy where certain tables are assigned to specific attendants? Not sure. And of course, how would newcomers know of such rules, if they exist? Well, nobody cared to tend to us or explain the system to us anyway, despite us looking completely clueless. And mind you, the waiters did notice us. They just chose to to walk away. Either way, very rude. And not inviting at all. We chose to leave instead. But of course, getting the car out was also so hassle free. Id recommend you visit the place for the lovely parking.

We went for a coffee breakz after the lockdown was lifted and what a pleasant surprise! To enter. We were asked for our names, phone numbers, temperature checked , sanitizers provided etc. The taste and ambiance hasn't changed in the years and more importantly the service and hygiene. Waiters and entire staff were wearing hair nets, face shields and mask and it was very reassuring to sit for an hour and eat in peace. They fully sterilize their plates, spoons and utensils. Parking is plenty as it's part of the campus of Hotel Ashoka, an icon in Chennai.

You cant help notice the 80s decor and charm as you step into this restaurant. You are mistaken if you think the owners have created a retro feel. I think they have just not kept up with the pace of changes outside those doors. Well thats the charm that attracts most of the patrons to this place. We had few varieties of Dosa, Chole bhature, chilly Parotta, noodles, idly and roti, few juices and coffee. The food was good but nothing to call out. The service was fast. The Waiters were polite. They could be trained to appear and interact with guests a bit more professionally. The cutlery, plates and dishes need a refresh. Overall, would visit this restaurant again when in Egmore and wanting vegetarian food.

One of the best vegetation cuisine hotels in the area. Since we went for dinner a little late we couldn't have all the best ones. But, what we ordered was exceptionally great taste. Also, the coffee was just a "WOW". Do try it, it's located inside Ashoka Hotel and ample parking space is available.

Good Food and Nostalgic ambience !!! This is one of the oldest hotel in chennai. We tried Dosa, chole battura and Starters. All items were really good. The good things about this place : 1. Good food and nice portion. 2. You get a feel of 80's high end restaurant looking at ambience. The ambience is minimalistic and old. No fancy colours. 3. Good service , but you have to call the staff to come to seat. 4. Ample Car parking space. 5. They have Kids chair. Very helpful for parents having kids in age group 1-4 years Things that could improve: 1. I feel that as old hotel they can add some Madras photos or some stories which can give people a old feel. 2. The price little on higher side. Cost around 300-400 per person for dinner. Overall a good vegetarian restaurant and I would surely recommend for family dinner.

Oldest hotel in Chennai. Dropped in to have a quick bite. Really appreciate the quick service despite the heavy rush. We found a table for 2 immediately. We just had simple breakfast. They also have buffet breakfast which is Rs.273/-! We also bought பருப்பு பொடி and Ghongura pickle, heard it is the best that you get here!! The sambhar , Pongal and idli was really steaming hot. ☕ Coffee was good too! They didn't provide any green or red chutney!! The taste was really authentic and yummy!

Very good customer service and tasty food. I would specifically point out the services of S. Karuppaiah who served us the food with a smile and the best customer service. We are grateful for the cleaners as well. They all helped us in making sure that our leftover food did not go to waste.

A place of yester year class and glory. The food is mindblowingly delicious. I ordered the paper masala and of course filter coffee and they were one of the best I have eaten. Highly recommending if you want a charming, spacious restaurant for high quality vegetarian food.

Close to heart place for the woodlands dosa, ghee dosa, Masala dosa with Bangalore style sweet sambar just amazing also the north Indian items Indian breads gravies taste really well. Parotta and chapati with white gravy served tastes really well. Whenerver i visit Chennai i never forget to come here especially for their sambar. Shakes and juices can be better. Sizzling brownie served is good. After a year visited again damn this place is constantly serving the best sambar (bangalore style sweeter one) in madurai we used to get it in aarathy hotel and modern restaurant which has gone down now but this is still sailing hopefully for more time.

I had curd vada and special grape 🍇 juice. Both are really good. Their curd had some special spice and it went so well with the vada and their special grape juice was so good and full of grapes. Vada was around 65 inr and grape juice was 140 inr. And it was totally worth it.

Hotel Ashok, of the Ballal Group. Very happy to see quality of food and service is still maintained till date.A vintage place, We ordered Thaali Meals and were not disappointed.staff were very friendly and prompt. The price is also very reasonable ,There is ample parking space. So you don't have to keep looking around

A wonderful place to dine in. Good ambience and very friendly staff. This is very near to Egmore Railway Station. One of the oldest and finest restaurants in the heart of the City. It's located inside Hotel Ashoka. The staff are very friendly. Food is very nice and tasty. Naan, roti and and sidedish are very nice.The ambience is good. The south Indian meal is simply superb. It is served with soup, sweet, Sambar vadai, Poori, unlimited rice, Sambar, rasam, paruppu podi, gongoora pachadi, papad, poriyal, dhal, payasam and ice-cream. Had a sumptuous meal.

20 years ago , dad took me to this restaurant. I went to check it out and it was a great indian experience free from fast food culture of today. Fast food is crispy n fast but good old restaurants are grand big , simple, clean and waiters remind you of the past , bearer culture. South India food really good a must try if you go near egmore

Went there for dinner, just for their delicious Dosa and Poori. Both were amazing and they have maintained the taste for several decades now. The manager asked us to try a Musk Melon ice cream and this came out to be a super surprise. The ice cream was, mixed with a bunch of nuts along with the fruit itself scrapped inside and mixed together as a liquid. Costed 189 but definitely worth it. Do try out their special lunch when you visit them..

Staying experience not that great. As it came to my listening it is one of the oldest hotels in Chennai. Quality has gone down though. Now on to a buffet breakfast shall review there again. Check out room. I personally did not like it however it is a budget hotel I agree there.

Went for lunch. The option provided was really good. As many are aware this hotel is from 1960s I guess, very cordial caption and delivery staffs. Lunch was very tasty and did not impact tummy. My guiding point is if any food u eat, especially in hotel if you get hungry in next 5 hours then the quality is as good as its taste. Go there n enjoy the food. Ample and more parking space in heart of city. Lovely hotel!!

An old restaurant that serves South Indian delicacies. The staff over there are very courteous and definitely a place to have some good food.

very very worst maintenance, un cleaning the cups, Rest room also is not good, very poor resturant in Chennai City. foods also not good., like sambar, Rava kichidi it's tomota bath. we spent Rs.811/- bill no.A75848 Dated 07/02/2026. Thankyou.
