Here are some images of the Karachi Port Trust (KPT) Building, a splendid colonial-era landmark in Karachi showcasing its architectural magnificence and its timeless presence by the waterfront. Inside, you'll find spacious rooms with high ceilings, richly adorned teak woodwork, a wooden open-cage elevator, a boardroom under the dome, a conference room, and a records room preserving original documents dating back to 1893 . The floors feature black-and-white cement tiles, and large green-painted arch windows add to its elegant aesthetic . Heritage, History & Visitor Sentiment Serves as the headquarters for the Karachi Port Trust, it stands as an enduring symbol of Karachi’s maritime heritage .

Architect: The building was designed by George Wittet, who also served as the Consulting Architect for Bombay (Mumbai). Construction Start: Construction of the building commenced in 1912. Completion: The construction was finished on January 5, 1916. It cost approximately Rs. 9,74,990. Inauguration: It was officially inaugurated on January 5, 1916, by the Governor of Bombay, the Marquess of Willingdon. Operational Start: The first meeting was held on January 12, 1916, and it was formally handed over to the Karachi Port Trust on February 7, 1916. 🏥 Role in World War I It is a surprising fact that immediately after its inauguration, the building, despite being designed for port administration, was converted for wartime use: Usage: During World War I, the building was converted into a "500-bed Indian General Hospital." Hospital Duration: It operated as a military hospital until May 1919. ✨ Architectural Features This building dates back to the peak of the British Raj and is a magnificent blend of British, Hindu, and Gothic architecture. A large Dome sits at the center of the building, enhancing its beauty. Even today, the Board Room and the Record Room are located on the second floor, housing the original proceedings records dating back to 1893. This magnificent structure remains a landmark of Karachi and the hub of the port's administrative activities today.

The construction of the Karachi Port Trust Building dates back to the early 20th century during the British colonial era. Designed by the renowned architect James Strachan, the building's construction began in 1912 and was completed in 1915. James Strachan, an architect of Scottish descent, played a significant role in shaping the architectural landscape of Karachi during that period. The Karachi Port Trust Building stands as a prime example of the architectural influences prevalent in the early 1900s, combining elements of both colonial and Islamic styles. Its construction was integral to the expansion and development of the Karachi port, serving as the administrative headquarters for the Karachi Port Trust, a vital institution responsible for managing and overseeing the operations of the port. The association with James Strachan adds a historical dimension to the building, as his architectural contributions extended beyond Karachi, leaving an indelible mark on the city's urban fabric. The Karachi Port Trust Building, with its timeless design and historical significance, stands as a testament to the collaborative efforts of architects, engineers, and administrators who shaped the maritime infrastructure of Karachi during a pivotal era in its history.

The Karachi Port Trust building was built in 1887 and has been so well maintained that it still looks elegantly and historically new. The building is one of the most beautiful buildings in Karachi and also well maintained. The building hosts the offices of Karachi Port, the oldest ports in Pakistan. The building is a heritage site and needs to be well preserved for posterity.

Karachi Port Trust one of the finest Architectural Icon of British Era and remembrance of British Raj. Very centralized curved shaped building having dome in the centre with the blocks diverting into two separate divisions. Sandblasted stone facade is the prominent building material of this beautiful edifice and offers magnificent views to the commuters of Tower Chowk. Recently organized public art festival has enormously added value to this Icon.

KPT was established under an en- actment 0f 1886 by the Britishers earlier Bombay Port was the mother Port. With passage of time it developed and ships of bigger drought can enter the port and berth. Deep containers Port has been developed. Cargo capacity has increased many fold but it is easy to control. But the back up space with the berths is not available. Leased out earlier but it is very tedious job to get vacated for port,s own use. Port is run by Trustees under a Chairman. It is safe & clean port. M s sulehry
