Today I sold my gold items to a shop called Run Lanka, and I can genuinely say that their honesty and service quality are excellent.
Before going to Run Lanka, I did a thorough price check by visiting several shops around Sea Street and Dehiwala.
In Dehiwala, I honestly couldn’t find a good price at all.
In Sea Street, many shops initially quote higher prices than Run Lanka.
For example:
• Run Lanka – 22K = LKR 325,000
• Sea Street shops – 22K = around LKR 335,000 to 355,000
However, once you show the gold to those shops, they start reducing the price by pointing out various issues such as:
• defects in hooks or clasps
• soldering or welding points
• thickness of the sheet
• and other minor imperfections
Even though the per-carat rate sounds higher at first, after all these deductions, the final total is much lower.
In my case, where the Sea Street total came to around LKR 1,600,000, the same gold at Run Lanka was valued at around LKR 1,800,000.
The biggest reason for this difference is that Run Lanka does not unnecessarily bargain or try to find excuses to reduce the price. They give an honest and fair valuation from the beginning.
When I first saw the long positive reviews about Run Lanka on Google Maps, I honestly thought they might be fake 😅 or posted just to attract customers.
But after visiting the place and completing the transaction myself, I completely understood why those reviews exist.
They only say one simple thing:
“If you feel our service is genuinely good, please leave us a review on Google.”
The biggest relief for me was coming home without any regret or stress about losing LKR 100,000–200,000 because of unfair pricing.
