Tonight we were guests at Hafezieh Restaurant. I was the one who suggested this place, as I had heard good things about it from a friend. Let’s start with the ambiance: the restaurant has a beautiful atmosphere, just like in the photos. The calligraphy is lovely, the space feels warm and friendly, and luckily for us there was an energetic group of guests whose singing made the environment even more enjoyable. Unfortunately, the service was weak. A lady came to take our order and seemed to be in a hurry. The first time, I asked her to give us a few minutes so we could use the restroom first. She said “okay, call me when you’re ready,” but a few minutes later she came back and insisted that we order sooner, saying they would not take orders after a certain time. As for the food: The minced koobideh kebab was very average—honestly just a regular koobideh, and according to one of our companions, even below average. The chicken kebab, however, was tasty, well-cooked, and served in large pieces. The pickles were good, the yogurt was good, and the doogh was also good. The tea was very delicious. However, bread was served with the yogurt, which really wasn’t necessary. The sangak bread was extremely stale, and honestly this was one of the main reasons I gave the restaurant a 3-star rating. The same bread was also used under the kebab, which was disappointing. At the end, a young girl was responsible for clearing the table and serving tea. In my opinion, for a restaurant with such a long history, providing a basic hospitality training course for staff should not be costly and would definitely add value in the eyes of customers. Finally, two staff members came one after another and emphasized that they could only host us for ten more minutes. While we were standing up and putting on our coats, they were quickly collecting the teapot and tea glasses. In my opinion, if proper training were provided—as they mentioned during our conversation—this issue would certainly be addressed as well.
