I cannot fault the care that I got from the team in Interventional Radiology today when I had my liver biopsy. Every nurse was incredible (special shout outs to Stephanie, Estelle, Pabina, and Karen (it might not have been Karen, I was pretty tired at this point, but she had a bunch of tattoos including a Phoenix and she was rad). As well as the doctor who did the biopsy itself. He was patient and explained everything clearly, which is super helpful when it's your first biopsy (and hopefully last but who knows).
From start to finish, everyone took really good care of me throughout what amounted to a nearly 8 hour stay with the rest required after the biopsy. Everyone was attentive and did thorough handovers to each other, any question I had was explained, and people were kind and patient. Even the person at admin who helped me initially was fantastic. I had some weird difficulties given my heart can be a bit silly sometimes, and my pulse, and well, my ability to make saliva, which is useful for eating / talking (shout-out to Estelle who got me the mouth swab while I was fasting from water), and I was never made to feel like that was inconvenient even though it clearly required a bit more time/energy from folks.
I left feeling like I know what to do if something goes wrong, how to take care of myself, and also just feeling like what could have been a terrible day was made much brighter with the chances for smiles, conversation, and feeling like I was in great hands. And I was. Not only that, but because I was in an area around other patients, I also got to hear this friendliness and patience extended to everyone, no matter where they were at mentally or emotionally. Thanks folks, you all do so much incredible justice to our public healthcare system.
