Abu Hafs Umar Suhrawardi was the sheikh of his time in the science of truth. He followed the path of asceticism and struggle. He studied jurisprudence, comparative law, and Arabic language and literature. He listened to hadiths from many scholars. Then he took the path of Sufism. Initially, he was occupied with dhikr and worship. Later, he began to preach to people. He taught at his uncle's madrasa on the banks of the Tigris. Many scholars and people from all over the Islamic lands came to listen to his sermons and lessons. Sinners would immediately repent through the blessings of his words. His students, like stars of that time, spread knowledge far and wide. No one else attained the position and respect he held among the sultans. He fell ill towards the end of his life. Nevertheless, His remembrance of God did not diminish. He continued to remember God Almighty. He was still present in congregational prayers. He went on pilgrimage around the age of 110. When he passed away, he hadn't even left behind money for a shroud. Abu Hafs Suhrawardi said: "A saint of high rank may not be granted any miracles or extraordinary feats. Because miracles are given to increase certainty and belief. One who has been granted certainty has no need for miracles or extraordinary feats. All these miracles are inferior to the remembrance of the Divine Essence and the adornment of the heart with this remembrance."
