I’m pretty disappointed with our stay here. I specifically booked this hotel through the Chase Edit program because of the extra perks, but in the end I didn't receive any. I know the room upgrade is "subject to availability" and I did not receive one...but I’d even reached out to the concierge before our trip to ask for an upper floor. Instead, they put us on the absolute lowest guest floor possible. Also, the welcome amenity that was promised? Never showed up. The biggest issue was the $100 hotel credit and the breakfast benefit. The front desk flat out refused to honor them because I didn't have the physical Chase credit card on me...only my virtual one (tap to pay) on my phone. Look, I have a lot of cards and I don't carry every single piece of plastic when I travel. I’ve never had an issue like this at other Chase hotels before. It was very frustrating because I even got the Chase concierge on the phone to talk to the manager and confirm my card and it being active, they still wouldn't budge. It felt like they were just looking for excuses not to give us what we paid for. The only saving grace was the cleaning service. The staff were so nice and did a superb job keeping the room in great shape, but the management side of things was a total mess. Won't be staying here again.

Overall, had a good experience. The hotel is centrally located to much of the action in the Gaslamp District, making it very walkable. The team was very friendly and professional. The room itself was clean, and the bed was very comfortable. I slept great! My constructive feedback would be the outrageous 2 hrs it took for our room service to deliver breakfast on Sunday morning. That's way too long for a five-star hotel. Our bags were also being held downstairs while we waited for our check-in. When we arrived, they were promised to be sent up, but it took so long that we had to call and check in on things, as we were on a time crunch for dinner. The room also lacks a fridge, which I found a little odd. The valet was prompt and professional. They do have an awkward entrance that comes in from both sides, which is sometimes blocked by parked cars/trucks unloading. I think overall things went well, but my expectations weren't met compared to most higher-end hotels I've stayed in.

A fancy-ish hotel with very nice finishes. Our room was nicely appointed and felt expensive, from the art to the bathroom fixtures, it definitely felt like a nice step up from an average hotel. The soaps and lotion smelled incredible...which is probably why they leave a card in the bathroom noting how they will charge you $62 if you take it home with you! The history of the hotel itself is very neat; they have plaques that mention how various parts of the hotel have either been restored or renovated, like some of the meeting rooms...one of them used to be the hotel's wine cellar! The in-room dining menu had a copy of the hotel's menu from the 40s...it was pretty neat to see what they offered and how prices and tastes have changed. The lobby is also very pretty to walk around and check out.

Beautiful hotel in the heart of San Diego! We enjoyed our staycation here, a great value for the price. Enjoyed the live music in the lobby and the staff service was truly exceptional, from the check in staff to the in room dining staff, everyone was very professional, friendly and attentive to our needs. The room was clean and the products provided were of good quality. My husband forgot his coat in the room and it was absolutely no problem getting it back after check out. We absolutely plan to come back. My only suggestion would be to improve the vegan friendly options for in-room dining to more than just fruit.

Ac fan very loud like low end motel. Reception area 5 star valet parking staffs standing around but I h!ve to wait 15 minutes but they didn't welcome us, we have to walked over and asked them where is the check in area before the take our car. No swimming pool no jacuzzi, only one restaurant with limited menu. Hotel ie fancy, staffs well dressed but manners need to improve for customers services.

Our stay at The US Grant was fantastic. I really appreciate the service displayed by various staff around the hotel, especially the security guy that always greeted me on returns to the hotel. The beds were extremely comfortable, the room and furnishings were great. We had breakfast at the Grant Grill and in-room dining, both were excellent experiences. All in all, our family had a very positive experience and would come back the next time we're in town. Hope this helps someone!

My experience at the U.S. Grant Hotel was unfortunately not pleasant. My husband and I stayed there with our 12-month-old baby to celebrate his first birthday, and the experience started poorly. When we first checked into our room, the heater was not working properly. The room temperature was stuck at 69 degrees and would not warm up. Maintenance had to check it, and we later learned the airflow was very low. A representative called us and apologized, saying they would move us to another room and that we would be upgraded to a larger one. However, when we moved into the new room, it was clearly much smaller than the original room we had. There was barely any space for our baby to crawl. We went downstairs to speak with the front desk about the issue. Unfortunately, the receptionist (her name started with “M”, possibly Maybella or Maribella) was extremely rude. When we explained that the room was smaller than the one we originally had, she insisted that the square footage was the same, which was clearly not the case. She also repeatedly mentioned that we were staying under the Explorer Rate, implying that this affected our accommodations. Regardless of the rate, guests should be treated respectfully and fairly. When we tried to explain the situation, she even suggested we could cancel the room if we wanted to. This was shocking to hear, especially considering we were traveling with a one-year-old baby. There was absolutely no empathy or effort to help, which made the situation extremely frustrating and unpleasant. Thankfully, after speaking with a manager, we were eventually moved to a room that was similar to the one we originally booked, and the heater worked properly. The hotel itself is beautiful, but the poor customer service we experienced, particularly the interaction with the front desk staff, left a very negative impression. Because of this experience, I would not recommend staying at this hotel to friends or family.

Our one-week stay at this hotel was nothing short of memorable. This will definitely be our top choice for our next visit to San Diego. The staff were extremely friendly and welcoming from the start. A special thanks to Jennifer, who quickly resolved a minor concern and surprised us with an amazing complimentary upgrade. The restaurant staff were also incredibly kind and informative, making our dining experience even better. The location is unbeatable — the Balboa Theater is right across the street, where we enjoyed an Ali Saddiq comedy show. We were also able to walk easily to the Gaslamp Quarter, Little Italy, and the Bayfront. We 100% recommend this hotel for anyone visiting San Diego. Fantastic service, perfect location, and a stay we’ll never forget!

I changed the rating from 2 stars to 1 star after I read their reply. Their reply seems addressed the issues but not really. No real content. Why would I pay for a 5 star hotel price but get a less of a 3 star hotel service? No, I won’t come back here again. I maintained joyful because I didn’t want to ruin my kid’s day. I tried my best to direct my kid’s attention to the beautiful comfy bed and the food. The ONLY positive thing I found here. The rest? Totally DISASTER. Toilet water running whole night, (I tried to remind myself think of that as a spring water coming down the mountain , its not noise but therapeutic music notes), but I gave up 6am by the coughing from room next door. And 3am woke up by the traffic outside. So I made myself a plumber and fixed the toilet water noise. Everything in the 5 star hotel room looks so fancy and high quality, however, you see a rusty trash can sitting there to break the harmony. The kettle wasn’t working and they never replaced it. They did bring us two more bottle water. But I wanted hot water. Room was small. Has a TV but we can’t watch Netflix because I don’t have an account to log in. The points they earned from me are from the bed and the food. Oh, i forgot to mention, the first hit was the $70 valet parking. I don’t get it why luxury hotel not providing parking? So to me this luxury is really just for display not really to make your stay comfortable. Which is not meeting the basics of what defines a hotel.

I have been staying at the US Grant for over 5 years, and it’s consistently a great experience in the heart of San Diego. This time I was upgraded to a Grant Suite due to my Bonvoy status. The soft product and staff were phenomenal as always, but the hard product is definitely begging for a refresh. As you can see in the pics, lots of wear-and-tear and dust. I hope this amazing property can rally to regain its status as San Diego’s preeminent place to stay!

Beautiful lobby and refined first impressions. Please modernize/retrofit your elevators! The maze of stairs from the 10th floor is faster than a 6th floor wait and reversal. Great restaurant attached to the lobby. Great service and corporate meeting location central to the Lamps of Gas.

The property itself is nice, but the elevators and guest rooms are clearly outdated and in need of renovation. During our stay, the hotel was extremely busy, and we waited over 10 minutes for an elevator to reach the 6th floor. The wait was unacceptable, and we eventually had to walk down because it simply took too long. This significantly impacted our overall experience

The US Grant hotel in San Diego is in the middle of the city, most of things are very close to the hotel. Staff are very knowledgeably especially ( Miss. Paulina ) reception staff, she was very polite, helpful, kind and friendly with us. I really appreciated her and what she did with us. So , I hope the management of both hotle and Marriott Bonvoy be appreciate her as she represents the hole in perfect and in the ideal way. Best regards,

So book this through my Chase, Sapphire, reserve and this was the top rated hotel. We went there for New Year’s Eve and wanted to make sure my wife had a special and wonderful evening. They have a restaurant downstairs which we did not eat that but we did have drinks at the bar I will let you know right now their bartenders Are amazing and easily made some of the best whiskey sours espresso martinis I’ve ever had and also gave us some great food recommendations for restaurants nearby will I stay there again most likely I do love to check out new places, but they were very accommodating very initiative and was not too far from gaslamp which is my wife’s first time going downtown. This place is and will be a place. We will keep visiting.

I stayed here for a few nights and was mostly very happy with my stay. The customer service was great, and the hotel was in a convenient location. The elevators seemed to be a bit slow, and some buttons were broken, so waiting for elevators could take some time. Also, I'd planned to watch some Hulu, since the TVs are supposed to allow Chromecast, but it didn't work for the whole stay. We called down, and someone came up, only to tell us it hadn't been working for a bit and that it would be fixed after our stay. Would've liked to have known that before so I could have brought my iPad or something to watch TV on.

The hotel suite was beautiful...we loved the complimentary shoe shine and turn down service. The bed was luxurious! The breakfast was delicious and the special 6 course tasting menu on New Year's Eve was spectacular! The quality of the gourmet ingredients was delightful and the service was courteous and professional! We will always remember our wonderful stay and fantastic breakfast and dinner at the Grant Grill!

Great rooms, bed is super comfy. We stayed in the Deluxe King and it was roomy with large bathroom. Guest service is superb bringing whatever you need to the room. The hotel itself has beautiful architecture and some history to it. Location is central and walking distance to lots of restaurants. Overall highly recommended.

We just came back from staying at the US Grant Hotel and loved it. I especially want to give the Concierge Lee Ann recognition for her wonderful help, honest opinion on our restaurant and neighbourhood interests as well as her very friendly personality. I’d highly recommend this hotel when you’re staying in San Diego.

The majority of elevators weren’t working leading to massive delays. There was zero communication during check-in of this problem as ALL the guests were waiting for an elevator. Terrible experience. THANKFULLY we had a great time at the bar. Huge shout out to Marco who changed the evening for my wife and I. We usually don’t write reviews. But he might be the best bartender we’ve ever had.

I don't usually leave negative reviews, but our experience at The Grant Hotel should be shared. After the first night, we noticed a few bites but didn't overthink it. On the second night, however, it became very clear something was wrong. Every time we got under the covers, we ended up with new bites on our arms, shoulders, and face, including swelling near my eye. The reactions worsened and continued after we returned home. To be fair, the hotel did move us to a different room on the second night and Maribel was kind, which we appreciated. However, after we got home and the bites began to welt, I reached out to follow up and understand what might have happened. At that point, the tone shifted entirely. I was met with dismissive and unnecessarily rude responses from management. My main concern was with understanding the cause and ensuring nobody else experienced this. Eventually, the hotel manager lady (didn't catch her name since she called back when I was driving) shared that a third-party inspection found no bed bug activity. Regardless of the specific cause, something in that room was clearly causing repeated insect-type reactions. This review is not about money (although they did refuse any type of refund), it's about a health concern and how it was handled. When I expressed to her that there are other types of critters, she rudely told me that any issues would come right back to her so any further conversations with the hotel would go nowhere . We are long-time Marriott customers and have stayed at many properties around the world without issue. While the room move was the right initial step, the lack of empathy and professionalism afterward fell well below expectations. Based on both the biting incident (15 bites) and the follow-up, I would not stay here again or recommend this property.
