Kharg Petrochemical Company (Public Joint Stock Company) was registered in 1967 with the aim of preventing the burning of gases resulting from oil extraction in the Iranian continental shelf (Kharg Island) and converting them into valuable products. It has been in operation since November 15, 1969. Its initial design was carried out in early 1965 by J.E.PRITCHARD Company and its implementation was carried out by the Japanese CHIYODA Company with a fifty-fifty partnership between the National Petrochemical Industries Company and Amoco Company with a capital of 900 million rials. In the development plan of this company in 1994, in order to prevent the burning of light gases and convert them into valuable products, the construction of the Kharg methanol unit was started with a capital of 149.5 million dollars and 460.5 billion rials and was successfully put into operation in 1999. This company was converted from a private joint stock company to a public joint stock company on September 11, 1996 and was admitted to the Stock Exchange on January 16, 1998. Currently, Kharg Petrochemical Company has 6 billion shares worth 6,000 billion rials. The products of the Kharg Petrochemical Company complex include methanol, sulfur, propane, butane, naphtha (gasoline). The products are produced in accordance with the latest standards, stored and all are exported.
