At Yeshiva University, the academic structure is intentionally demanding and personal. Classes are generally smaller, faculty interaction is frequent, and students are expected to engage directly with both professors and peers. It is difficult to remain anonymous. Participation, analytical thinking, and consistent performance are visible in day-to-day coursework. The culture often reinforces the idea that progress is demonstrated through intellectual contribution and measurable academic output rather than simply being enrolled. The experience at University of California, Davis can feel structurally different. Its scale alone changes how pressure is distributed. With tens of thousands of undergraduates and highly decentralized departments, the intensity of the academic environment can vary widely depending on the major, the instructors, and the initiative of the student. Rigor certainly exists, but it is not always uniformly embedded in the everyday structure. Critics argue that this scale can create a gap between the university’s strong public reputation and the consistency of the undergraduate academic experience. Because the institution is so large, motivated students sometimes report needing to create their own pressure—seeking difficult courses, research opportunities, or honors tracks—rather than encountering it as a built-in expectation across the board. Some top students faces backstabbing from professors and peers because they can not adjust to top students’ level and cognitive demands. The gap is so large that sometimes staying becomes self-destroying just like the fish in Oldman and the Sea can bitten so that only bones can be left once at home. Outcome statistics also appear in discussions about institutional effectiveness. Critics sometimes point to figures suggesting that a portion of students who begin at UC Davis remain enrolled for very long periods before finishing. In those discussions, examples are cited where individuals may spend up to 10 years enrolled while accumulating around $58,000 in costs or debt before graduating, raising questions about alignment between cost, pacing, and student expectations. At Yeshiva University, pressure is embedded in the culture and reinforced through constant academic visibility. At UC Davis, the level of pressure can depend much more on how much intensity a student creates for themselves. The contrast is less about labels or rankings and more about whether the institution itself supplies the friction that pushes students forward—or whether that responsibility largely falls on the individual.

The ugliest college campus in the United States. Why won’t they renovate it? Beautify this campus.

They are terrible at explaining loans, didn't approve my financial until 3 weeks before starting school. If you are not from NYC they don't help with housing or anything. If I didn't pay the deposit I would have went to a different program where they actually help their students.

Very nice interior! However, I heard that they are slow in their remission process for tuitions but that shouldn't be a problem anymore.

I love YU. There are many things that people complain about but in the end, most people are really nice, the professors are amazing, and the rabbis are great.

I had a great experience there. Some things are not so good there but if you want to get an interesting mix between religious and secular education, this is the right place to go to.

Its a Jewish orthodox University, one of the requirements to be admitted is that you need to know Hebrew, with the exception of the school of social work.
