(The Educational, Research and Clinical Center for Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases)
Mozaffareddin Shah Gajar, who had lived in Tabriz when he was a crown prince, had tuberculosis. Considering the fact that there was no treatment to cure tuberculosis, doctors had advised the crown prince to reside in a place with healthy climate
After assessing various in Tehran, Daräbad village was chosen as the appropriate place for accommodation and treatment of Mozaffreddin Shäh Qäjär. All Asghar Khän Aminoossoltan Atäbak-e A'zam purchased a large garden in Daräbad Village with an area of 60000 square meters in 1894 AD, by order of Mohammad Khän Hakimolmolk, the Minister of Court. A beautiful building was built in it that became known as the Shahabad Palace. This building was a summerhouse with French design built in two floors. It is the only Qajar palace with an oval ceiling and has gable roof and wooden trussing. The elegant mirror work and beautiful plaster work of two of its rooms are known as masterpieces of the period of Qajärs.
In front of the building, there is a blue-colored waterscape that has the form of a helmet. Other ornamentations of this building Include: Velar plaster works on the walls in the same floor, ladder-like capitals and wooden decorative elements that are studded wooden borders used in the upper floor as well as around the ground floor's windows. Using marble stone in carpentry was an innovative feature in this building's ornamentation.
When Mozaffareddin Shah Qäjär passed away, this palace was gradually converted to a sanatorium for tuberculosis patients. After the decline of Qajars, this land and the palace building were not used for a long time until the late Dr.Masih Daneshvari, in 1931 AD, established a nursing school in this place. The wards of tuberculosis patients in the building were designed and built by German architects in the form of curved wings.
At present, this center with two independent research centers (for tuberculosis and pulmonary diseases) and six university-affiliated research centers has been selected as the center for educational cooperation on tuberculosis in World Health Organization's Eastern Mediterranean Region (WHO - EMRO) and also as the secretariat of the Mediterranean region of the International Federation Against Tuberculosis and Pulmonary Diseases, It is also the reference center for educational and research programs on tuberculosis throughout the country.
